So I had a dream last night that I was at some kind of fancy professional conference, and there were tables of hors d'oeuvres, wines, fruits, etc. I was talking to one of my sisters about various things, and another one of my sisters came up, said nothing, and handed me an oddly folded note. I thought, "this is weird, if she has something to tell me, why doesn't she just say it?" I was puzzling about this while unfolding the note. I finally got it open and realized she had written it on some old, ripped up piece of junk mail or something. And all it said was, "EAT SOMETHING". I woke up and took my blood sugar, which was 65.
This kind of dream where I am trying to figure something out, and out of nowhere hear or see the words, "EAT SOMETHING", then I wake up with low blood sugar has happened to me before, undoubtedly my subconcious at work. Does anyone else have these kind of "helpful" dreams?
in my dreams i have a tendency to have an "epiphany" moment where the dream is going along normally, then i (or someone) say to myself "your blood sugar is low." it's usually just like that, too. it interrupts the process of the dream long enough for me to wake up and do a blood test. because my bedroom is in the basement, i started keeping juice boxes by my bed so i don't have to fumble around going up the stairs trying to treat it.
If I wake up in the middle of the night and I'm wide awake, that means I better test because I'm likely low. I don't know why that wakes me up, and since I'm usually not a "morning" person, I don't know why that wakes me up so fully. I don't know that I've ever had a dream warning me of a low however.
But, if I am looking for a bathroom in my dream, I darn well better wake myself up because that means I really need to pee, and probably should test too, as I'm likely running high. If I actually find a toilet in my dream, that is high alert to wake up now, because my bladder is ready to burst! Crazy how the subconscious is trying to scream at you sometimes. :)
Hmm, I don't think I have ever had a dream like that. I do, however, wake up in the middle of the night if my blood sugar is low. it's annoying but, I guess, better than the alternative.
I have had a dream like the one you mentioned. Sometimes I will have a nightmare as well. Its kind of weird how your body can signal you with dreams.
On a side note, the reverse happened to me once. I had a dream where I tested and was low, I woke up, and without realizing dream from reality just went ahead and started eating. After about a minute or two I stopped and paused, realizing that I had made a huge mistake and not tested when I woke up. Turns out my BS was fine. Oops
I've had lots of dreams where I will just be eating nonstop, stuffing my face. This usually wakes me up and I realize that my blood sugar is low and really do need to go eat something! I don't think my dreams are quite as detailed as yours though, that is really cool that your sister gave you a note to eat something!
Sometimes I feel low in my dreams (which I guess is in real life as well) because I'm really low. Usually, if I'm really low I'll wake up right away and immediately search for anything to eat. Often when I dream I'm low, though, I don't wake up, I guess because I'm not "low enough." I have had dreams where I've been really high or really low in the dream but my blood sugar has actually been fine...It's weird.
I usually wake up when my blood is low. I wake up in a daze. However, my dream always seems to fade away when my blood is low. It's like everything that I'm dreaming about just disappears.
Before getting a pump I used to have a lot of bad overnight lows. Whever I had a bad one I'd wake myself up with a stressful dream of being underwater, unable to come to the surface.
I have yet had a dream about being low. It seems when I wake up because I am really hot, then my BS is usually low. However I recently got the dexcom CGMS and I notice when it goes off at night I hit the ok button to "snooze" it like I would an alarm clock and I need to figure out how to stop doing that! lol
Hi Cindy! I myself do have dreams fairly similar to this when my sugar drops low. My dreams are not as subtle as yours though. I often (when experiencing a low sugar) have dreams of myself in a very dangerous situation, often close to death. I wake up in a panic and check my sugar and realize I need to boost it back up. I guess they should be considered helpful..as they wake us up and make ourselves aware of the low sugar. So, no you don't stand alone here. Heres to "sweeter" dreams!
Joking aside, I remember a dream once where I told my friend I was feeling funny, he told me to test my blood sugar, so I did (still in my dream), and it was 800. Next my friend said to me, you should probably wake up and test your blood sugar. I was low.
