I'm Sam, 27 and T1D for 22+ yrs. I just started on mm paridigm a week ago, and am going to start the mm cgm in a couple of weeks. Have you had good success with these? It looks like the cgm is really going to hurt! Hopefully it looks much worse than it is! So far I love mine but it seems everyone has a different view. I haven't actually spoke with anyone who has one though. Any advice, or things to watch out for? Thanks a lot!!
I was diagnosed at the age of 10. It was on November 22, 1966. Yes, I'm an "old timer" now, but I have minimal complications after all these years. I've been pumping since 1996 and that was the absolute best decision I have ever made.
Isn't it something? When we know we aren't supposed to have an excess of carbs and it's the one thing we want more than anything? Just the way it goes!
This guy below is 21 years old and he can actually tell when my blood sugar is low...he starts meowing (like only a Siamese cat can!) and gets either my attention or someone's. He's a dear pal!
January 16, 1987, age 11. Coming up on my 22nd anniversary (my mother still cringes that I call it that and want people to acknowledge it). Nowhere near my birthday, it's in July.
And Jody- we think alike, my 12th anniversary seemed very significant. Then my 20th, now I'm waiting for my 25th so I can get the Joslin 25 year plaque or whatever it is.
You know - saved all the links and PDF's regarding the Joslin medalist programs about 2 months before I got to my 25th and now, I've done nothing with it... Thanks for the reminder - maybe soon, LOL
Of course, I can remember "BD" (before diabetes)! Back then the big dessert in my house was home made chocolate pudding...not the instant stuff...real cooked stuff! It stopped almost immediately after I was diagnosed. I look back and feel really bad for my sister who really got the short end of the stick in some ways.
A-D, Hilarous that you say that b/c I put it in my Palm Pilot at least over 10 years ago (when it seemed unimaginable and now it is quickly approaching). And was thinking when I wrote this, "hmm- wonder if it's still going on cause I'm going to really disappointed if it wasn't a forever thing." Somehow it's been something to aspire to- as weird as that sounds. I really like to mark milestones. Bought myself fancy jewelry for my 20th anniversary! You should contact them and tell us about it!
Rachel, I forgot all about the darn Joslin thing...I went and downloaded the paperwork...I wonder if they'll give it to me retroactive! :-)
I get the same funny expressions from all kinds of people. They just don't understand that every day we get through is a big deal so when we reach these major hurdles, we want to celebrate!
i was diagnosed when i was 14 months. im not sure of the exact date. after i was diagnosed i had to learn how to walk again and in the hospital i was being treated for the flu.
i was diagnosed in June of 1995. I was 15. I am the only one in my family with diabetes
I started having complications with insulin resistance and I was recently diagnosed with PCOS. My endo said that I will probably start to get other endocrine problems because of the diabetes. thankfully I havent developed any "common" complications (retinopathy, neuropathy, etc)
