When were you diagnosed? how long has it been? What's your story? Post it here!

I was dxed january 25. i've had it for almost 5 years. wheni was 10 i got really sick i had it for 3 weeks without knowing and i lost 20 pounds. My BG was 1021!

One month today. Already feels like years... hahah

I was diagnosed a week before spring break when I was in seventh grade, almost fourteen years ago.  No idea what my BS was but I do remember getting very sick and dropping a lot of weight.  Finally, after getting sick again, went to the doctor and they ran some blood work and told me I was a diabetic.  Spent the next three days in the ICU and then two more days out of ICU before going home.  A great spring break.

I was diagnosed on August 26, 2009, so it's been about 4 months now.  I had been feeling pretty bad for a few weeks but I'm the type of person that has to be dying before I stop going to work or go to the doctor.  On that morning I acutally woke up and took and shower and was getting ready for work when I realized that I just wasn't going to make it.  I felt sooo horrible.  I remember laying on the bathroom floor and feeling horrible.  I decided not to go to work because the drive would've been too long (I work about 1.5 hours from my house) and I didn't trust myself driving.  If the drive hadn't been so long I may have gone to work which would've been bad.  I went back to bed and then called the doctor right when they opened and got an appointment for 11 am.  I was laying on the couch and I had written all my symptoms down on a piece of paper because I didn't want to forget anything when I went to the doctor.  My husband, who is also a type 1 diabetic, read the paper with my symptoms on it and realized what was going on.  I remember I was on the phone and he pricked my finger.  The reading on his meter was High.  He thought that maybe it was incorrect so he tested his own blood glucose, he got a normal reading.  He then pricked my finger again and got another High reading.  I was pretty out of it at this point but I remember him being on the phone with the doctor and then he ran into the bedroom.  By this time I had gotten off the phone and managed to make my way into the bedroom where I asked him what was going on.  He was quite upset and told me that we needed to go to the hospital right away.  I ended up in the hospital for 3 days, one day in the ICU.  The doctors said that it was good thing that we got there when we did because I could've ended up much worse condition (in a coma) if we had waited.  It's been a tough couple of months but I've had a great support system from my husband.  He has really helped me get through some really tough days.

my diabetes anniversary is may 31st. i was diagnosed in 2007 a few days before the end of 5th grade. i had lost 36 pounds in 6 weeks before i had been officially diagnosed. i had been trying to lose weight but when i was constantly drinking and using the bathroom, my mom knew something was wrong. i had a blood sugar of over 1000 at the doctors office and a blood sugar of about 800 at the hospital.

Mine was November 16, 2001. What a turning point

Mine is January/28/1998  I was 3 1/2 years old. I dont really rember what happend but my mom & dad told me that mine BG was over 800. It will be 11 years on January/28/2010

I was dx'ed aug./o8, about a year and a half ago. My story is pretty much like everybody else. Wasn't feeling good, lost weight, dehydrated, going to the bathroom A LOT and a meter that said HI 600+. All this and 52 years old. Oh, yea at dx. bs 672, a1c 13.2, DKA and in ICU, so much fun LOL

i was dx'd on march 27. i've had it for 9 months so far. i had been really tired, was losing weight, and eating ALL the time, so my mom took me to the dr and i got blood work the next day. my bg was 712

i was dxed april 28 2009.. so i've been in the club for almost eight and a half months

I was diagnosed January 16th, 1986.  My anniversary is coming up.  My symptoms started about six months before I was diagnosed.  I started with leg cramps in the summer.  I progressed to the extreme thirst and hunger in the fall.  I lost weight consistently over several weeks/months.  I went from about 100 pounds down to 83 before I was diagnosed.  Toward the end, I was cleaning the fridge out nightly (eating everything in it) and drinking about a gallon of milk a day (and of course crossing my legs as I drank anything.  My blood sugar was in the 600s, I don't remember what it was exactly because it didn't mean anything to me at the time.

I was never admitted to the hospital.  I went on an IV drip that day in the doctor's office and then everyday for several more days at a different office.  Has anyone else had that kind of treatment after diagnosis?

I was diagnosed on July 5, 2001. I had the excessive thirst and weight loss for about three months before I was diagnosed. I was 11 year old and finally was so ill that I couldn't walk or stay conscious. My parents rushed me to our local hospital who then sent me to Riley Hospital for Children. I spent a week there, three days in the ICU, two days on regular floor, and then two days in the parent care unit. Seems like forever go.
