Rash or burst blood vessels?

I was just washing my 8 year-old son (diagnosed 18 months or so ago) and noticed some red spots on the front of his thighs. The skin is completely smooth so although it looks like a rash, I guess it isn't. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Is there any reason to think it's related to his diabetes? He can't feel it at all and wouldn't have known it was there if we hadn't noticed it.

thanks

Bruce

sounds more like a contact dermatitis, unlikely related to diabetes at all. Should go away on its own, just must have been something irritating there.

thanks for the reply. I hope you're right, but it really seems to be beneath the surface. I can't feel anything running my fingers over it, and it isn't tender or itchy or anything.

if it only stays on his thighs and doesn't spread to anywhere else it is not something systemic, meaning that it came from something outside his body as opposed to something from inside (like a viral rash, etc). If it spreads, he spikes a fever, or if his sugars run high and you can't attribute it to anything else, you can maybe guess that he is fighting something and it may be that.  Of course, if you have any concerns at all, the docs opinion would far surpass mine ;) Regardless of what it is and where it came from, I don't think it is in any way caused by or diabetes related.

thanks Jen, that is reassuring. His BG has been pretty good recently so we hoped it wasn't diabetes-related. We're going to see his DNE today in any case, and we'll show it to her.

take care,

Bruce
