Need a tattoo design!

Hey all, Ive really been wanting a tattoo for a few months now and want it to be diabetic related. Now i dont wanna steal anyones design but can anyone give me some ideas?1?

Is there a web site anywhere showing med. tattoos ?

Ive been trying to find a creative way to incorporate diabetes in to a tattoo also! Let me know if you find anything good.

If it helps my avatar is my tattoo, it's my version of medical alert. Staff of Life with one snake around it. Have photos on my page, send friend request if you need. Good Luck on your tattoo, this was my first.

Almost forgot the background on my tattoo is a tribal version bio-hazard symbol.

Wild you ask this question, because i've been thinking of the same thing myself. My daughter was diagnosed 12/4/09 and i want to have one done with her name and of course that life changing date. Of course my other issue is where to put it (being so i already have 15 tattoos). I'm thinking over my heart (since that is what she is to me)..... Personally i think the actual picture should be our own design, but i'd definitely have to put the day you was diagnosed on it...Best of luck and please let us all see once you have decided on a design.

i'm doing a pin-up girl holding an insulin syringe or having it in her garter and probably wearing the grey ribbon pinned to her shirt for mine....haven't gotten it designed but that's the basic idea.

A friend of mine is a tatoo artist and he just did a small one - it was a skull and crossbones but instead of crossbones there were insulin needles. Don't know the reason for the skull except he said it said it looked cool.  He has done them for women also - usually a small ribbon and the date. There are so many designs that can easily be made into diabetes tatoos.

I am getting one for my boys that are autistic instead of a typical autism one I am doing a Celtic animal symbol that stands for acceptance. I will have their names and birth date around each and the word acceptance in Gaelic.  It is what I want for them. I am looking up one for what I want for my daughters life not what has affected her life. If she wants one for herself when she is older I am all for that tho. I am not finding one that is just right for her. I want one that symbolizes good health and a long life. Which is because of her diabetes.

I understand you need to be an adult before getting a tatoo.Since it is there for life...But the idea of having one sounds like a good idea for the reason- it speaks for the person in an emergency situation...if you have a pump or where Id that can be seen by emergency workers. If your on shots and won't where Id-that could be a problem...Are emergeny workers trained to look for tattoos--do they do a quick look for them in an emergency ?

I am not sure but I think a tat of  the ID bracelets on the wrist would be a cool/smart idea for a tat.

You know...that could really be pretty if done right !!!.........one day they will probably put a chip in us all and scan us on the scene for all medical info. needed....

No doubt. I was just looking at bracelets and they have some with a usb port and you can up load all your medical info onto them. They didnt have any in kids sizes tho. Still pretty neat.

they aren't officially approved, but it's been discussed before and apparently they are being told to look for other markings of medic info..like tattoos.

personally, i think replacing a bracelet, dogtags(want some so bad! lol) or anklet with a tattoo is the stupidest thing you can do. i'd rather have a bracelet that says i have diabetes on my wrist, then a tattoo on my wrist that says i'm diabetic. and whose to say they will look for a tattoo if they have it set in their brains to look for jewelry, even with training? i'd rather get a NICE tattoo to represent my diabetes somewhere on my body I don't have to keep exposed "just in case" because i'm not wearing a medic bracelet. i don't think tattoos used be used as IDs. they should be pieces of ART, not tags.

what next? those "no smoking" signs on their wrists instead of wearing a bracelet? or a vial of penicillin? or an inhaler?

hmm to each their own I know people who use tats for wedding rings not much different than having one as a medical id bracelet in my opinion. I have seen lots of jewelry type tats actually and consider them art. Even a simple band around the finger if it means something to the person getting it. If done right it could be both art and functional IF the person getting it likes it. Not something I find stupid unless you dont like it. Then of course it then just becomes not right for you.

I think wedding band tattoos and tattoos that identify a person as this or that are completely different. personally, when i think of a tattoo as a replacement for a medic bracelet, i think of tattoos given to holocaust concentration camps prisoners. plus, the majority of diabetic medic tattoos i've seen online, while searching for ideas..are either not done well at all/look like they were done in someone's basement by someone who really can't tattoo, or are poorly design and just don't look good. but yes, to each their own.

I would agree with you if one was FORCED into getting one but if one wanted to get one then its a choice and one I fined cool and smart. Not stupid better than wearing nothing at all at least.

Guess I am not the only person who thinks they are not stupid

while who ever did that one needs some more practice its art imo no different than this one

just on the arm than around the wrist.
