Hello, I am 29 years old. Diagnosed with T1 when I was 2 years old. My husband and I started TTC a little over 1 year ago. 4 months into trying I got pregnant. Miscarried at 10weeks. Gave it a rest for a few months then got pregnant again 8 months after the first miscarriage. I miscarried my second baby at 8 weeks. I do see a perinatologist that specializes in T1. He’s great. My numbers are great and under control (most of the time). He says “These things just happen.” Of course I can’t help but think I could’ve been even MORE careful and maybe just bubble wrapped myself. I am really stubborn and don’t want to quit, but I have a lot of anxiety to try again. Wondering if anybody has had a similar experience with a happy ending.
Hi Angie. I don’t have a similar experience, but I am a midwife and we see a lot of women with diabetes having babies. It is very normal, and more frequent than we think, that women have some miscarriages before carrying a pregnancy to term. However, if you suffer with another miscarriage you should contact an obstetrician (some specialise in multiple miscarriages) to try preventing it in the future. This would be the same if you didn’t have T1D.

HI there. T1D for 31 years, dx’d in 1986. I have two healthy kids (first born in 2010, second in 2016) and also experienced a miscarriage in 2015 (after two years TTC). My high risk MFM doc assured me that it was not diabetes-related and that miscarriages are unfortunately not uncommon. Trying again after miscarrying was terrifying and my pregnancy with my son was emotionally challenging, but my son was born, healthy and happy in August 2016.
