I’m Kerri Morrone Sparling and I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in September of 1986. For much of my life, I was the only diabetic I knew. Thankfully, that’s not the case anymore.

I started my diabetes blog, Six Until Me, in May of 2005 because I was tired of Googling “diabetes” and coming up with little more than a list of complications and frightening stories. Where were all the people who were living with this disease, like I have been since I was a little girl? Was I the only person with diabetes out there who felt alone?

Then I learned about blogs, and the power of sharing our stories online. Back when I first started writing online about diabetes, I was one of four or five diabetes bloggers. Now I am a proud member of a vast diabetes community who prove every day that I’m not alone with this disease.

I live in Rhode Island with my husband, our daughter, and our son. (And a few cats.) I like to go to the beach with my kids and travel with my family, and I have a shameful amount of yarn in my home.
