Morning number

Hi everyone!  I'm curious of what your morning sugar levels are, to get a general idea of your "norm".  My son's have been a bit high lately, and I'm wondering if he is coming out of his honeymoon.  Also...he has been having some crazy rebounds after treating lows.

Thanks in advance!

The goal for my little guy is 100-200, but he most often wakes up between 200-250. It's known as "dawn phenomenon" and it happens to a lot of T1Ds. But, your son might just need some adjustments to his insulin, especially if he is newly diagnosed.

For the rebound to the lows; after the low is treated I follow it with a snack and give him insulin to cover it. That helps to keep his rebound from being so high, sometimes prevents the rebound.

Thanks, Trish!

You're welcome. And welcome "officially" to Juvenation. :)

Thanks...I've been here, but I'm ashamed to say I was always in "Lurker" status.

My morning goals are between 90-120... I can live with <150 and if it's much higher than that I usually have myself to blame.

My goal for the morning is 90 - 110.  But like Matt, under 150 is ok.  I'm 29 years old though, and I *think* that the window for kids is usually a bit more generous.  Especially since they are growing and many factors can throw off that morning reading.  And yes, coming out of the honeymoor period could also be a factor.  Really, you need to look at a pattern and not just one number.  And Trish gave some pretty good advice regarding the "rebounding after lows".  I do that too, usually just a small snack, though.

This was actually a big problem for me.  When I came out of my honeymoon period I was getting a lot of morning >=200 or close to that, which is not good.  Fortunetly I got that taken care of quickly.

Thanks for the responses, all.  You're a helpful bunch, and I appreciate it!

our target for our 5 yr old is 4-10. my husband's target is 4-7 (sorry we're in canada, i don't know what it is american). for a while he was waking up between 3.5-6. but lately it has been between 6-8, though we did have a mornings between 11-15, which resulted in increasing his glargine.
