Looking for Diabuddies in Houston!

Good Afternoon

My name is Christine and I have had diabetes for almost 19 years. I have a diabetic brother who has had diabetes for about 14. I am looking for another female diabetic that I can communicate with and learn from. A lot of my experiences with the disease has been very difficult, not having the support and medication I need because my parents are not actively helping me and my brother doesn’t experience burnout. I would love to be able to meet up or even chat on the phone from time to time!

Hi Christine!

I’m not in the Houston area, but I’ve had T1D for 14 years and I’m now a Senior at Kansas State University.

My campus has a College Diabetes Network chapter, where people with diabetes can get together and have others that just “get it.” I’ve loved having this group of people to talk about things with and sometimes just rant about the frustrations diabetes can cause. If you want to see if your campus has a CDN chapter, or if you want to start your own, you can visit this link: https://collegediabetesnetwork.org/content/campus-chapters

Also, CDN has a page just for handling burnout. Since I have had diabetes for a long time like you, I know that burnout is tough to deal with! Here is the link for CDN’s burnout page: https://collegediabetesnetwork.org/content/burnout
This page has lots of adorable and funny videos of animals and I highly recommend it.

I hope this helps!
