I'm used to people calling soda pop because my teachers are all from up north except for one. All of my teachers that are from up north say that we talk weird. I'm a southern girl so I say soda. But whatever floats your boat!
That teacher is practicing un-teaching, I think. She is perpetuating the idea that people do something to get T1. I'm right there with you Happy Vegan. I have to admit that I have
a pretty bad diet mountain dew habit. I'm up to probably around 1-2 two liters a day. I call it DMD.
Regular soda tastes like syrup. It's so thick and sweet somehow...in a gooey way. Diet isn't...although I admit that it's not healthy. Argh. Another vice to address.
I use it to treat lows, though. It works really great, although for some reason, it tastes like prickly water. Anyway. Boo on the teacher. Blar on the soda/T1 association. I want to commend you, oh poster of this, for being a really good sport about that situation. It would have burned my grits.
I just finished taking a nutrition in college. We got on the subject of
artificial sweetners. Which is what they use in diet soda, in case you
didnt
know. I think the reason your teacher wanted you to try to not drink
soda was because of all the artifical sweetner in it. I really dont
think it had anything to do with you being a diabetic. The teacher
probably asked who was a diabetic because tshe know that diabetics
drink diet soda (most of the time). And if you drink a lot of diet soda
then you are getting all of the sweetner which isnt good for you in
large amounts. Don't get me wrong regular soda isn't any better. It has
a lot more sugar, carbs, and calories. Shes probably just wanting to
prove that there are alternatives than drinking soda.
