Last night's 'Celebrity Apprentice' had a number of surprises, but the most personal was rocker Bret Michaels' revelation that his daughter may also have diabetes. Bret's done a great job at raising awareness and money for diabetes during the show, but he did spread some misinformation about diabetes that I address here in an article today published by Diabetes News Hound. Check it out:Bret Michaels Gets Sad Diabetes Surprise But Survives ‘Apprentice’ Boardroom
Bret Michaels has a 9 yr. old daughter that is showing signs of type1.I feel for him and hope all comes out well.I don't understand why they are waiting on results to know...wouldn't the doctors know right away ? ...
It's possible they are saying that to boost ratings for next week. The suspense!
It doesn't surprise me that Bret Michaels misquoted the stats, there. This is coming from a guy who flat-out said in an interview that he purposely gets his BG too high right before sex to improve his "performance". What an idiot.
I do hope his daughter does not develop it, though.

Am I missing something here? How would that help his performance if he wasn't feeling well??

I wish I could find the source now, because I don't want to mis-quote, but I believe he said that running in the 300's had a, er, Viagra-like effect on him.
i had no idea that he had diabetes. yeah, i think they may be trying to boost ratings cause i found out the i had diabetes within like fifteen minutes.
Maybe I'm taking what he said out of context, but as a mountain biker, I do notice that when I go, I tend to have more energy, and more stamina, starting out with blood sugars in the low 200's as opposed to starting out in normal range. It may be psychological, as I have no scientific data to back myself up. It also seems to be logical to start out slightly elevated to avoid getting low during exercise.
maybe I am just still old school, I don't really know, I will ask my endocrinologist about the slightly elevated blood glucose before exercising. It hasn't done me wrong in the past really...
If it is not healthy, please fill me in. I may be mis-informed.
I would agree that getting your blood sugar a little elevated before exercise is advisable to avoid lows. My thinking here is - he's Bret flippin' Michaels. So, this "situation" is probably happening more often than once a day, right? I'm really basing my judgement on my assumptions of his behavior, and what I've read about him. Maybe he's pulling a 6.0 A1C somehow - who knows but him and his doctor?
