Over the weekend, rocker Bret Michaels, one of the most famous Type 1 diabetics, suffered a massive brain hemorrhage while recovering from a recent emergency appendectomy. There have been a lot of questions swirling about what role, if any, Michaels’ Type 1 diabetes played in his recent medical issues.
It would seem like having diabetes has some role in his recent health issues. But I would bet that it is not the sole cause. I hope he recovers, I don't watch the Apprentice that much, but have caught 2 recent episodes and he was great.
Poison singer Bret Michaels is in "positive spirits", despite being
diagnosed with a side effect relating to the recent haemorrhage he
suffered.
The news reports are stating a setback for Bret Michaels that may put
him at risk for seizures.
In fact it appears that he was
diagnosed with hyponatremia, a condition that is considered to be
relatively common in hospitalized patients.
Here is a full
description from Epilepsy.com, a section that was adapted from
the work of Steven C. Schachter, MD, a professor at Harvard Medical
School.
"Hyponatremia is relatively common in hospitalized
patients. It occurs when an imbalance between the intake and excretion
of water results in excess water relative to sodium. This imbalance may
be the consequence of impaired water excretion or fluid intake that
exceeds the excretory capacity of the kidneys (as in primary polydipsia6
or iatrogenic administration7)"
