Vaccine Fear

I understand why you’re saying this, but “do your own research” isn’t a helpful response, mostly because not everyone has the tools to discern good, sound info from bad. “Do your own research” is exactly what every conspiracy theorist does.

The goal should be to guide people to reputable, evidence-based advice, not sending people out into the wilds assuming they will find correct, accurate, fact-based information.

Fortunately it sounds like the OP is on the right track, internalizing good advice and going to reputable sources like her endocrinologist.

Yet another data point - I have 2 boys (18 &12) both with T1D. They both got the vaccine and had no adverse reactions. Strongly recommend!

Never apologize. It is your right to decide based on your unique health and needs. Like you- I haven’t either and don’t intend to. I work in clinical research so this is my area of expertise. I didn’t make my decision quickly or without extensive research. It is your body to make the choice. If anyone shakes you - get away and ignore them. Much like other decisions do what’s best for you

Mary, 70 yr old, T1 65 yrs. In 40s dx with unknown autoimmune disorder by comprehensive disease specialist at a University Med center. I once skipped flu vaccine bc I didn’t want to mess with autoimmune system. Huge mistake!! Always get flu now but have been hospitalized 2x with mild pneumonia secondary to flu not covered by the vaccine. I also have asthma. Due to my age, # of yrs T1 & compromised lungs I got the vaccine as early as possible. Went to another County in early March that had abundance of vaccine. Rec’d Pfizer vax. Mild reaction to both injections as I expected. Ive had same with other vaccines like shingles & flu.

The above is my experience & factors (including RN wife) in deciding to get COVID vax. You are the only one who can make the decision for you after information gathering & consulting with endo.

thanks Henry, i got my first Pfizer shot last week. have slept a lot in 3 days, other than that nothing extraordinary…i go for shot two august 26!

That’s great news! Glad it went well.

If you are diabetic you should have had it in January

Thanks! Yes I had my first shot Pfizer and slept a lot afterwards, not looking forward to the second but pushing through. A nurse I know in Florida, which has the highest rate of all variants said people vaxxed are still coming to hospital sick but surviving. From her observation people with Moderna shots are fairing better than people on Pfizer. Now that’s only her observation in one hospital so it’s not even a general overall condition. My dr told me the science community has no clue in certain details on what or why…change is too rapid they can’t keep up.
