My name is Shelly. I have a 12 year old son that was diagnosed with T1 in January of this year. We're still adjusting to life with diabetes, but I couldn't be more proud of my son for handling it so maturly and responsibly! We do have some ups and downs, but I think that's pretty much par for the course.
His Endocrinologist has said that since Quinton has adjusted so well and quickly to life with Diabetes, she's considering Ok'ing him for the pump in early July. That's only 6 months after diagnosis! He's very excited about the pump and just wants to get it!
I'm glad I've found this site. It looks like a great place to come to for questions/answers. I'm going to have Quinton sign up as well. Perhaps having a community of other people who know what he's going through will make him feel a little more at ease.
Welcome to the club!!! Sorry that you had to join, but you will find the most wonderful people here! If you have questions about ANYTHING....you'll get all the answers you need! These people and this place are the BEST! The pump is such a wonderful thing! I'm sure Quinton and you will love it! I am sure that when Quinton signs up...he'll meet many kids that have sooo much in common with him! Glad you are here:D
Just wanted to say Welcome. Sorry about having to join. I know I didn't join willingly. LOL Here the other end. Just to show that this Club 1 welcomes all. I was dx'ed aug./08 at 52, see all are welcome. LOL This is a great place to be, again Welcome!!!

WOW...I didn't know that Type 1 could come on in the later years! I've always heard it strikes children through adolescents. Thanks for all the warm welcomes!
I hope we can be of help to you on here. I like the variety of perspectives -- parents of T1's, T1's diagnosed at different ages, etc, etc. Hope things continue settling down for you guys as you get used to the disease.
I was diagnosed at 24 and I originally thought "I cant have Juvenile Diabetes, Im an adult". Whats even more weird, and I apologize if this sounds rude, but Type 1 diabetes is more common in white/caucasion people than any other race. So even my doctor first assumed it was type 2 since black, hispanic, and indian tend to have that type of diabetes.
I guess im just one of the exceptions as far as age and race goes.
The biggest thing that will help any diabetic person is family support and love, and having friends who can relate.
