My son has been type 1 since he was 14. Now at 23, he is still struggling. We are looking for a friend with type one who could help him. We are in Naples, FL.
@brndybnchyahoo-com it woudl be great if your son could come to the site, check it out, and talk about what he’s going through? possible?
@brndybnchyahoo-com,
There is the South Coast Chapter of JDRF right in Naples, the contact information is at:
A way to find people near you is through the jdrf.org website, in the top margin click on “JDRF Near You”, he just missed a big gathering yesterday in Naples. Hope to meet you someday, I’m at the JDRF Cups of Hope every month in Sarasota.
It is very hard for me to get him to do anything. I will try.
Hi, my name is Ann and I also have son that is 23 and he is having a very hard time. He was diagnosed when he was 21 and he dropped out of life at that point. He managed to finish his associates degree, but hasn’t worked since. He stared going to counseling recently, not much progress yet. He doesn’t have friends that he is close to. I was very glad to know that we are not alone.
Hi Ann,
Thank you for sharing. Are you in the Naples, Florida area? I would love to meet you.

Hi Cindy,
My name is Joe and I’m 24 living in Philadelphia. I was diagnosed with Type 1 when I was 2. Obviously I’m not very close to Naples, FL but please feel free to reach out should your son want to connect.
Hey, Joe,
Thank you for reaching out to me. I am going to try to get my son to connect with you. Not easy. He rejects any sort of help. You don’t know how much I appreciate your willingness to help.
Cindy

Please call anytime. I would love to talk.
Cindy
Hi Cindy and Ann! I’m 25 and I was diagnosed at 9 I am currently in the process of bettering myself and my health I’ve been struggling for years at this point despite my efforts in these last two years. I understand what your sons are going through very much. I know a couple other T1Ds but no one close to me. Please feel free to give them my info should they need to talk and feel free to do the same yourselves. My email is marreromiro312@gmail.com
So sorry to hear that your son is struggling. I was the same way at 23 and at 24 I decided to turn it all around and focus on my health full time (I was diagnosed at 4). I am currently 26 and dropped my A1C from 11 to 7.1 over two years. Parental help is great and I remember the days when my Mom was pushing for my A1C to be better and the battles of us arguing over my disease. The best advice I can give is to just be supportive because at some point he will step up and do it for himself because it makes him feel better. I didn’t realize how crappy I felt until I started to take care of myself and he will too.
Thank you, Daniel, for your support. I really need all the help I can get.
Late response but I am 20 and I was diagnosed with type one at 16 so if he ever needs to talk he can message me! i can give you my email or number! I don’t live in Florida but its always nice to have someone to talk too! I take care of myself really well and I don’t have anyone that is type one my age either.
Hey, Daniel,
Thank you for your response. I have forwarded your info to my son. I pray that he contacts you. Thank you for wanting to help. You are an angel.
Cindy
Yes of course I hope he does too! No problem at all it would be great to talk to Simone who truly gets type one! just message me if you need anything else!
Hi Cindy and Ann,
I have a son in a similar situation. He was diagnosed 2 yrs. ago at 21 and is still struggling. He doesn’t have any close friends, and doesn’t feel comfortable talking to anyone about his situation. I wondered if you found anything that helped.
Thanks,
Michelle
Hi I am 26 and live in the Orlando are. I was diagnosed around the same age. If he wants he can contact me and hopefully I would be able to help him in some type of way
Fabio, thank you for your willingness to help my son. You are a good man. I will keep your information. Right now he seems to be doing okay, but you never know when that will change.
Thank you again and God bless you.
Cindy
I’m 16, I’ve had diabetes for 10 years. Maybe I can help, maybe we can help each other because with time t1d only gets more stressful im finding. Friends would probably help
