My 6 year old son was diagnosed in March this year. I would love to find a boy around the same age in our area with T!D for my son to connect with. I feel like it would really help him to understand that he’s not alone. If there’s a specific way to go about that please let me know. I’m new to this website and forum so I’m not sure where to look for everything yet. Thanks.
@shells55 hi Richell,
probably the best way would be for you to locate a JDRF local chapter, attend a fundraiser, and meet other parents of children with T1.
You can go to to the Resources Tab at the top of the page,
You can go directly to the JDRF page and search for a location close to your home address.
hope you are doing ok.
Thanks for the reply. I ended up finding the local chapter and was able to find a contact for exactly what I’m needing right in my area. Thanks so much. We are doing good so far. Still trying to get used to all of this. Our son Joel who is 6 is doing great. He doesn’t complain much at all. The only thing I’ve noticed is he doesn’t seem to have the stamina he used to have. But that’s probably because his blood sugars are still kind of up and down a lot. We are hoping to get him a pump soon. I hope you’re doing well and loving life to the fullest!
@shells55 Hello Richell
I am glad to hear that you found a contact. The first year can be challenging. I’ve had this for 39 years, and try to do the best I can. diabetes starts off as a disaster, then you get over the shock and find that it gets to be a routine. I’ve had a pump for 13 years - while not perfect, and certainly not automatic, it was a good choice for me.
Happy to meet you!
