Hellow everybody
I have been diabetic for almost 10 years now, but I’m still a little sensitive about it and I generally don’t like talking to people about it much sometimes.
I have been getting comments from people around me lately that I always smell like insulin and how awful it smells to them. I don’t know if I’m being too sensitive or not, it just bothers me that I have no control over my scent
Sorry to hear this! I’m really surprised that people even know what insulin smells like.
That is pretty insensitive of folks to comment on it.
After 31 years of having diabetes I find at times I can also be sensitive to it. But, most of what people say is out of ignorance. I have found that just correcting them (nicely) usually helps, it is contrary to my personality, but I feel better when I don’t feel judged, especially off of misinformation. Though I completely understand that sometimes you just don’t want to deal with that! Again sorry to hear that!
Don’t feel bad for smelling like insulin. It isn’t in your control. If people don’t like faint smell of it then it’s their problem. But if you want I found out that a little extra body spray “perfume” and they can’t smell it unless they really know the smell if insulin. My friends and used to experiment with smells because I was very self-conscious about the smell too. Best of luck to you!
Wow! I’ve been diabetic for 43 years & had no idea that a person can smell like insulin. I smell it when I take it.
