I'm 19 and was dx with diabetes in Dec. 2009. Today I was diagnosed with PCOS. I was just wondering does anyone else have this? How do you treat it?
I had never heard of it before, and my endo said it was surprising that I have it because I am not overweight and I do not have insulin resistance (I am actually very very sensitive to insulin). She said I will just have to go on an oral contraceptive. If you have anything information you could share, please do.
I'm so sorry to hear about you having to deal with both T1 and PCOS. But after reading your post I have found a little info for you here: http://www.womenshealth.gov/faq/polycystic-ovary-syndrome.cfm hopefully this will either give you some answers or put you onto the right track to get answers.

I have PCOS, but not diabetes. The birth control pills are to help regulate your hormones so that the symptoms won't be so severe. (The menstrual cramps and such.) I was diagnosed when I was ready to start a family at 21 years old. I have never had much trouble with it except that I had to take fertility pills to get pregnant, but they worked really fast for me and I was able to get pregnant again without them. Feel free to contact me if you have any personal or private concerns.
I've had Type 1 for almost 24 years and was diagnosed with PCOS in 2006. I took metformin for awhile as my endo said that was helping women with diabetes and PCOS; however, I continued to have irregular periods and the other symptoms and didn't like the side effects of the metformin so I quit taking it. Now I'm not doing anything and wonder if that's ok; my endo doesn't seem worried about it but I am a little. I know I haven't really helped but thought I'd share my experience.

My endo mentioned metformin but said because I don't have other symptoms (insulin resistence, etc.) besides high testosterone levels and irregular periods that an oral contraceptive would be enough...
