I just started with the hot flashes, day and night. I am not getting a good night sleep. Some mornings my sugar is fine and others it is high for no apparent reason. Anyone else experiencing the same.

Deb, I went through the same thing about a year ago and was miserable. I initially thought I could get past menopause without HRT but, after about three months of the misery, gave up and requested HRT from my gyn. My life improved 100%. One really big factor that drove my decision of HRT was it was affecting me so emotionally that I felt (at the time) my life wasn't worth living. I've never been so depressed in my life. Hopefully, you're not experiencing the emotional impact that I did.
Another concerning factor was that I was getting where I couldn't tell the hot flashes from the low blood sugars. Additionally, I too was experiencing increased instances of high blood sugars and my glucose level, as a rule has always been tightly controlled. Since starting HRT, my blood sugar levels are all back to normal.
One question for you, is are you a pump user? I've used one for about 8 years and cannot tell you how much it has improved my lifestyle. It's also seriously decreased how much my husband worries about me, especially while traveling on business. If you don't use a pump, you might want to consider it. Although, you may want to wait until you're thru menopause before making a major change such as this.
My suggestion to you is to talk to both your gyn and endocrynologist. That's what I did and was able to make the decision that helped immensely.
Hope that helps.
Thank you ladies for starting a thread on Menopause.
Like you, I get the HF at the most inappropriate times! I found they come at the same time as I used to menstruate (yep, I don’t anymore). But I’m afraid of HRT. I only suffer from the HF and have no mood swings, so I’ve investigated SSRIs (I’ve had some success) and changing my basal limits. I disagree with cxbird, tho, and I suggest you look into the move to a pump with a CGMS (constant glucose monitoring system) if you haven’t already. Peri-menopause and Menopause can take upwards of 15 years and I’m a big advocate of doing it sooner rather than later! With the hormone changes, you need to be even more vigilant with your carb/insulin/exercise monitoring. CGMS is my lifesaver! I’ve effectively eliminated my overnight lows and the CGMS alarms me if I’m hypoglycemic, so I can safely ignore the night sweats.
Hi, am new to this site. Wanted to reach out to see if any of you have tried taking Invokana in addition to insulin? I am 46 years old and suffering with TERRIBLE hot flashes which of course leads to no sleep! Over past 2 years I have gained a little weight (107 to 112). My blood sugars have gone crazy. I used to be extremely insulin sensitive, but now am taking 3 times the insulin when eating the same things and still have 250 plus blood sugars. I have increased my basal rate on my pump, I eat very low carb, I work out almost every day, and still not having good results. I feel all of this has to do with pre-menopause.
I tried HRT for hot flashes, which caused high blood sugars and weight gain. I also tried Effexor, which worked at first, but then… weight gain and general feeling of lethargy.
I am worried about my health. I have 2 children that I have to be here for! Any advice?
