My 9 year old daughter was diagnosed with T1D last December and I had to stop work to manage this. I am planning to go back to work and am looking for someone with experience to manage her after school activities, three afternoons per week. She wears a Dexcom G6 and has an insulin pen. Looking for resources or any advice/insights as to how to find support? Thanks, Diane
Hi Diane @DMc1, Welcome to the TypeOneNation Forum! I hope here you will find a caring community willing to offer you tips and suggestions that will help you and especially your daughter live well, happily and productively with diabetes.
If you lived “right around the corner”, I might be able to give you some references, but as an alternative, I suggest that you talk with people near you living with diabetes. Using the “Events” Tab at the top of this page select “JDRF Near You” to find a JDRF Chapter and ask there for suggestions. I know that many of the people who attend our monthly meetings [Bradenton / Sarasota, Florida] are caregivers / parents of young school-aged children with diabetes.

I live inWellesley, Massachusetts and most of the mothers I have met stay at home so they aren’t looking for this type of support.

Hi Diane @DMc1, we are former neighbors; I lived in Milton my first 25 years and then another 34 in Arlington before resettling to Florida 20 years ago.
There is a JDRF Chapter in Wellesley Hills, and as you probably know the Joslin diabetes Center in Boston is the world’s leader in diabetes research and diabetes management. You may be able to get some information there.
Have you checked out SafeSittings (https://safesittings.com/). It is a database of babysitters who themselves have T1D. I haven’t used it yet myself, but was looking into it.
