Has anyone else ever seen the I port? It's some painless needle injection thing. Looks pretty cool. Just wondering if anyone can come up with and pros/cons about it. If you dont know what im talking about the website is...www.i-port.com...
that looks like it BEGS for infection.
there's no cover? there's nothing to block baterica from going into the cannula?

Can't speak for everyone, but I find injections painless now! This looks to be marketed for T2s who have to start taking insulin but are too wimpy to do it. Looks like it'd have to be changed every few days like a pump. But whatever, if it helps some people, cool.
Maybe it would be good for a small child who is afraid of injections but not ready for a pump?
I'm on MDI's and I can't imagine doing it b/c seems like an extra step. Anyways, I like being able to choose my sites based on how quickly I want insulin to absorb, etc.
Yea that was one of the points i was lookin at.
I use a pump and have been for the past 7 years and I didn't know about the IPort before, but when my doctor makes me take breakes from the pump and go back to the pen for a few weeks, I always use IPort. I've never gotten infections from it and I love it. I'm not scared of needles it just takes me a little while to get up the nerve to sick a needle in myself. I just find it much easier to use the IPort.
Makes sense. I don't think you could use it for 2 different types of insulin though. if you use it for fast acting then you wouldn't be able to use it for lantus.

you wouldn't have to worry about infections anymore than with any other method of injection or with a pump site. For type 1s we would definitely need to still do injections even with the i-port because the long and fast cannot be injected into the same spot. If a type 1 were going to put in a site, and still do injections for lantus, just get a pump! haha.
Anyway, good luck Jeff, and welcome to the club! It's a pain in the ass to figure everything out, but when you do it's really not that bad. If I can give any advice it would be to find a Dr that will let you live your life and make diabetes fit into it...not the other way around!
I tried the I-port on my son when he was 2. I didn't like it because it sticks out really far and it was hard to line the needle up just right with the little rubber thing to insert it, but I imagine it would be better for someone older.
It's true that you can only use it for one type of insulin.
Infection shouldn't be a problem, you just wipe it with an alcohol pad before an injection, like you would your skin.

That's exactly what I thought. It looks exactly like the 90 degree insets from Animas. It looks like a pretty good idea though.
a few years ago at camp i got a brocure about that. i thought it would be cool to have, but i have a pump so i would have no use for it.
i agree with batts. it looks like it would invite bacteria in and cause so many infections. it would have to be better than poking a needle in your leg arm everytime you give yourself a shot. a port or stabbing your body several times... i'd take the port and risk getting an infection
