My husband and I have almost been married for a year and are talking about starting a family soon. I know that I need to bet my blood sugars in WAY better control before we can even begin. I just feel like I don't know where to start. I'm changing endos again and just feel so over welmed. I also find myself feeling like this is all my fault that we need to go through so much before getting pregnant. I get almost jealous that it is so easy for other women. It has always been a life long dream of mine to be a mother I just need to get in better control first. All the horrible experiences with endo's is making me anxious about a new one again. Any support/suggestions would be wonderful.
Hey Girl. I'm so excited for you that you're on you way! I understand how frustrating just getting the the first point of "cleared to conceive" can be. Just another thing we T1D's get to deal with that the rest of the population doesn't. It's ok to be jealous of those who don't have this hurdle! I know I totally am!
First of all, please don't blame yourself. This disease is not your fault! We did nothing to get it, we can do nothing to get rid of it, and no one is perfect when handling it. None of this is your fault! It's an annoying process, but one well worth it (I hope! I'm pushing 18 weeks as I type this) And our husbands will understand :-) That's why we love them!
As far as advice on where to start... I would pick one time of day to focus on. or a certain food. Just really focus in on how and what effects you most. Personally, the more I can break something down the easier it is to handle, otherwise it just all seems so impossible. For example, I am still shocked to this day about how being around my dad alone can send my sugars through the roof! But now that I recognize it I can bump up my basal rates and watch what I eat a bit more closely when I'm around him. We're all different, so just take the time to focus on you. Hopefully your new endo will be supportive and help you do this. Sometimes I feel like they just don't get it since the disease leaves with us and all they see is some numbers and not the roller coaster that goes along with it.
No matter what just remember that you can do this! I know I'm pulling ya! This board has been incredibly helpful for me, and I hope it can do the same for you :-)
I just want you to know... I HAVE BEEN THERE. I was married 4 years finding myself in the same situation you are in right now.
I am happy to tell you that I am now 33 weeks pregnant.
Recently, I was a guest blogger on Diabetes Mine and wrote about my pre-pregnancy struggles. Hopefully, my story can help you feel a little bit better!!!
Just know you are NOT ALONE in what you are feeling. Most women that have type 1 go through some of the same exact concerns as you. You're right, It is overwhelming. It isn't your fault that you got diabetes. But, you can do this and with the right medical team and support system you can reach your goals.
If you don't mind me asking, what is your current a1c?
