That really is funny. I am 34 almost 35 but still I am a Type 1 diabetic. I thought it would be neat to hear the experiences of others and how they have dealt with their diabetes. Sad enough to say, I have two smaller children that are dealing with this same illness. My son, 6, has been diabetic since he was 2.5. My daughter, 8, was recently diagnosed during the summer. I know it is not easy.
Wow Keely- glad they caught it then, how did you feel?
Jennifer- that certainly sounds rough, I can't imagine dealing w/my own diabetes and that of 2 young children. Sometimes I feel like managing my diabetes alone can be a part-time job! I'm sorry to hear of your situation, but hope you are a good role model for them and know that one of the hardest aspects for me is the challenging to overcome the feeling of "being alone" with it. Your kids certainly won't have that feeling and I think that goes a long way emotionally.
You know what's crazy? I felt fine. I had no idea. I had been drinking a lot of water and lost 15 or so pounds, but my husband and I ran the Chicago marathon that year also... I assumed that was why! Plus, Type 2 diabetes doesn't run in my family and it never would've occurred to me that I'd have juvenile diabetes. It really is an unfortunate misnomer! Thank goodness my general practitioner was so on the ball! :)
I was just diagnosed with Type I a little over a year ago and am 25 now. I might now fit the age range, but it's nice to know there are other people out there with the same concerns!
