Zynquista gets FDA denial

Hello. I’ve been following this new option for T1D for months. This drug has many benefits and one stated by patients in the trials was a better quality of life as THEY FELT BETTER as the drug levels out the highs and lows. There’s 1 reason they voted it down - a risk of DKA. However that can be mitigated with ketone monitoring. Check out lexicon pharmaceuticals site to read more. I’ve contacted the FDA to expresss my support for this drug and attached a screen shot of my cgm showing the ups and downs that are part of a non-diabetic A1C. If anyone else would like to contact them after reading, let me know. Pros: levels out sugars, weight loss, reduces hypertension, cardio benefits, FEEL better.
Cons: slight increase in DKA cases

I don’t work for them- no affiliation. I just think we should be allowed to decide based on risk/reward and then act accordingly.

Cheers!

Why would I want a medication that causes DKA? That is a serious complication of diabetes!!! DKA KILLS PEOPLE.
I do not blame the FDA for killing it off. It should not be on the market if it causes DKA.
As for sugars: my sugars are flat thank you very much…
My HbA1c was 5.4
My glucoslated Albumin was 6.1
For Hypertension: if I was put on a medication to LOWER my BP it would KILL ME! I am on 2 meds JUST FOR THEIR SIDE EFFECTS which is HYPERTENSION… and I am still fighting HYPOtension (my average BP is 90/46)
Weight: well, hum… I wear a size 2-4 depending on who makes it. I don’t have weight to lose (are you saying t1d’s are fat by mentioning this?)
And feeling good: well I feel good. It is called ENDORPHINS. It is called getting out and enjoying life, having fun, going to the gym and getting a couple hour HARD workout, go wake boarding, go skiing… do something… just get off the tuckus and do something.

Thanks. As you assumed quite a few things u will correct your errors.
I wear a 0-2 dep on the brand
I exercise an hour a day
It only potential causes dka in a small subset of the population and was due to a lack on monitoring
Not all patients are on pumps or in a honeymoon phase. Consider yourself lucky
Most of us are on many medications and it’s a choice. This medication too would be a CHOICE that each person could make
I have an A1C around 5. However I don’t have a pump and just like an average in math without a pump it’s pretty difficult to always be 80-120 statistically it’s impissibke without a pump.
The medication isn’t for you. Ok. Doesn’t mean others won’t benefit.

Does that answer your questions?

I’m very interested. I never pay attention to oral meds bc I feel it doesn’t apply 2 me, but I’m willing 2 try anything 2 feel better. After 47+yrs I still bounce around and starting menopause, feels like a nightmarish kind of puberty. As far as ketones/dka, if you’re t1, then you should know all about dka and it’s dangers. I came from a time when urine testing 4 “acetone” was a 3x daily event. I would gladly go back to daily ketone testing 2 feel leveled out.

Whoa…why are you so upset? It’s not like someone’s forcing you to try it. I for one would like more info about a possible treatment option, good or bad. And before you lose it again, I’ve been doing this x47+ yrs. I’m at a point where I’m ready for something different. I know all about dka bc as a child, I built up antibodies to the only insulins available at the time; beef and pork. 4 over a yr I was in dka more times then not. You sound like you’re doing and feeling well now, but don’t tell me you feel good all the time. I don’t care what your labs are, what size you wear, or that you get high on life. It’s not possible 2 feel that good all the time. Is it necessary 2 try and shame others who may not b fortunate enough to have and/or maintain the good health you’ve been blessed w?

I was on pump therapy yrs ago but went back 2 mdis after about 8 yrs. Towards the end my control was horrible. I do better on mdis. PS I would definitely try a new med. After 47yrs, definitely would like more options.

I was the same. Issues with beef pork based and DKA. I remember those little tablets we had to put a drop of urine on. Ha the old days. But you’re correct we used to monitor for ketones - now folks don’t for some reason. I can share the podcast where the study participant expresses how great she FELT. That’s worth any ketone checking to me. DM me and I’ll dig it up - if you have an iPhone should be able to find it.

First person I’ve heard from other than me 2 have the same problem. I was in DKA all the time and took over 100u and still^^ Some lifers say they miss the animal insulins. Ugh! Dipping w ketostix is a snap so bring it on. Sorry but I don’t know what DM is. I use Android but I’m sure if I dig, I’ll find something.

The doctors said I was allergic to the beef and pork yet I ate and can eat both meats. I think they didn’t know what was going on. Initially accused me of not taking it then during inpt tests over days realized it was the insulin

Another study was just published on sotagliflozin. Said patients in study felt benefits of drug outweighed taking the pill and testing. Sounds right!

@Sqduarte…We communicated a couple of months ago about a T2 drug that the FDA denied 4 T1s. Never 4got your post and started on Jardiance off lable over a wk ago.
If you’re interested, I started a blog I plan 2 do 4 a month just 2 write on my experiences while on the med. I’m in the gen section under pennylane42672 Jardiance blog. Chk it out:)
