Wins and Losses

Okay, I am posting this partly because I was excited and partially to brag because it was an AWESOME day.  I have plenty of good and bad moments and I thought it may be fun (especially this time of year) to share some of the wins and losses.

My department's VP took us out for a lunch before the holiday today.  We went to a "wing joint" and the six of us ordered 84 wings plus appetizers and I had two 16 oz. Guiness.  When I got home, my son was ready for a nap and I laid down and fell asleep with him (forgot to test).  The extended bolus I gave - the carb guess of a lifetime (117 on extended for 1 hour, 55% up front)... I woke up from my nap and...  I was 99

Woohooo!  As holiday season kick-off's go... I'll take it!

To be fair if I bomb on my day of two-Thanksgiving dinners - I'll let ya' know what I tried and where the wheels fell off..

Cheers!

A-D taking that nap was BOLD.  117 grams…. Was that a wild guess or guessing by addition (haha).

Okay I have a loss.  I cook for Thanksgiving so I am typically moving and climbing stairs lifting and setting up.  It keeps my bs low while I crack jokes and entertain the family.

Things were excellent until it was time to sit down.  Bolused in for a small correction (148) and about 60 grams, figuring for the potato and the stuffing.

The fat gods were not pleased.  I was 48 after an hour. and ended up chewing glucose as the yo-yo began.  I knew what was coming.  8PM 240, (correction plus 3 units for 3 hours) 3AM 280 (correction only), 8AM 220 (correction plus I boosted my basal to 200% and skipped breakfast.  ooof.  It’s like falling off a motorcycle.  I hope I am done rolling and bumping my head L

Joe,

Guessing by addition and adding 20% because it was a restaurant... LOL :P

*ouch* on the bounce - hopefully all is back to normal.  I underestimated what I ate at meal #1 and ended at 197 (even if my meter was wrong it was a real psychological win to stay under 200, hehehe) -but finished meal two at 73 and woke up @ 94 this morning...  I hope I  don't loose this set of darts, LOL

Test early, test often and may all your meals be uninhibited by gluco-guilt for the coming hours, days and months... ;)

Cheers,

A-D

I sometimes believe in a finite universe.  If something is pulling at one end then there must be an equal push at the other...  Therefore I propose that you were sucking up all of the luck!

After my miserable morning - I ran short of insulin (I wonder why) and changed my set. 3PM (yesterday) 230!  correction and a little snack because now I am getting hungry again.... then after an hour I got a NO DELIVERY alarm - reserved in my pump for when "it's pushin but there aint no insulin goin nowheres".  Distracted and running short on patients... I cheked my infusion set for an obvious kink or if the twist lock wasn't locked and then it appeared to be working again - 5PM 117 and the first actual measured bg below 2 hundy in a long time.  Hurray!    Then I ate dinner, had a good 2 hour, but I decided to stay up, growing more concerned about the no delivery alarm.   11:30PM 260.  No A-D, this was more bad luck then I can stand.   OUTENZIE!  I hate ripping off a infusion set before the 3 day mark, but enough is enough.    Plus I would hate to see my AM blood sugar if I wasn't getting insulin most or all of the night.

things are greatly improved as of this morning =)  that may mean you should watch out!

Joe,

I believe the reports that the universe is expanding which necessitates a belief that it is, in fact, a finite structure (no infiniti plus one, right?).

You are more right than you know.  So there I was sitting next to my wife waiting for her Dr.’s appointment when my PDM (controller part of pump and pod) starts doing its alarm thing.  It is a controller error and I had to reset the darn thing.  This means that I have to waste a perfectly good pod/pump.  I called in to customer support and normally they offer a spare.  This time?  This time they just said “do the reset and you should be fine, have a good day.” – If I ever get over my fear of needles/tubing I am switching to a proper pump in a heart beat, LOL

I am glad things are back on track for you.  I am delaying my dinner due to a 139 start…. :P

Cheers!

I've had the flu all week, and my sugars have been hovering around 175, with occasional rises or drops that account for soup.

I did okay on Thanksgiving day.  It's funny--when you can't taste anything, you really don't eat as much as you might otherwise.  My sugars stayed between 140 and 180 most of the time, with boluses.  I planned my bolus for 50 carbs, and I guess that came out about right.  (We also had very hungry guests who wound up eating all the worst stuff--sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, etc.)  That helped a lot.   I am just having a heck of a time figuring out how to keep the sugars a little lower with being sick. (I always have this problem.) Urgh.

Ana have you ever tried temporary basal rates?   my MM lets me dial in 150% as a temporary basal rate for when I am sick, and I set it for 2-3 hours between when I feel like eating and it hleps.

hope you feel better too!
