So, it's been very hard, but I've finally reached my goal and lost 27 lbs as of yesterday, and am back to 125 lbs!!! (25 lbs I had gained from a prescription medication, and those last 5 lbs left over from my pregnancy) Also, since exercising and eating healthier, my eye doctor said my
vision had actually improved at my annual exam, and I've lowered my basal
insulin from 12 units a day to 8 a day.
As many of us have found, it's so hard to loose weight w/ T1, so things have been slow -- I lost more like a 1/2 to 3/4 lbs a week rather than 1-2 a week. I've been exercising for 30 min each day, but I think it was more keeping my calories down that did it. Which is why it was hard -- sometimes I go through periods where I'm just low all the time no matter what I do, so I'd end up eating 300 calories of jelly beans a few of those days, lol.
Anyways, I'm proud of myself and thought I'd brag. Sadly, things have "shifted" a bit (post pregnancy? age?), so I don't look like when I was in my 20's, but at least I can fit into some of my old jeans. Now, I have to try to get through the upcoming holidays, lol, so feel free to send me "reminders"!
P.S. I used www.sparkpeople.com to track exercise and calories if anyone wants to try it.
OK, I'm a dork, but I was just reading over this post in my email and realized I had a bad math moment! I meant to say 22 lbs and 5 lbs... Do 25 and 5 not equal 27?? (;
Way to go Sarah!! That's so great that you were able to accomplish your goal, and in such a healthy manner. Not many people would be able to stick with it when the progress is slow (I can throw myself in that group). Woohoo!
Yay Sarah that is a HUGE accomplishment. I am going through the same process. I am also relieved to read that it can be done with the pump!!! So you used spark people to track calories? how does it work and what did you limit yourself to?

Nicole, I have to give a shout out to C for recommending sparkpeople to me!! If you put in your weight, goal, activity level, age maybe, it will recommend daily calories for you. I also saw a registered dietitian / CDE, and I was happy to see that her calories/carb/protein/fat rec's were very similar to the site. For me, it recommended 1200-1500 cal a day (give or take, don't remember exactly)
Pat, congrats to you too! Hopefully it's not someone here on Juvenation who will gain our 50 lbs! How would Tom ride his bike?? (;
I need to exercise more regularly and start paying attention to calories again (after diagnosis, I was thinking so much about carbs that I never even LOOKED at the calorie count anymore!). It's so not fair that I was losing weight while unhealthy and eating truckloads of food, and now I'm gaining weight while healthy and counting carbs!
I've also thought about doing NutriSystem. I used it successfully a few years back, and they have plenty of food designed with diabetes management in mind. (It's marketed to people with T2, but low-glycemic food is good for D all around).
