Venting!

On the way home tonight, I took out Thai food for dinner. I avoided Thai iced tea and rice, so really all I was eating was tofu, veggies, ginger, and sauce. You never know what's in those sauces, so I counted it as 30 carbs to be safe. But, now, an hour and a half later, I'm 280!!!!!!!!! To make things worse, it's 10:15, so I'll be heading to bed soon. Which means I'm sure to either drop really low in the night from correcting, or to not correct enough, be high all night, and wake up feeling like cr*p.

Seriously, WHAT do they put in those Asian sauces? What am I missing here?

Seriously! It's so frustrating to have no idea if you're going to end up high or low because of a sauce. It's also frustrating that you either have to eat at the same restaurant, eating the same foods, a lot, or you have to eat there super rarely and feel awful when you do!

Very frustrating.  I think really the only reason I've had such good control the past several weeks is that I started eating the same exact breakfast and lunch every day during the week.  How boring is that?

I think Thai food puts sugar in almost everything they cook (just for fun!)  What do people do when they find themselves super high before bed. I hate bolusing and then wondering if I will ever wake up.  Which is worse? to ride it high or risk a scary low.  Ahh, life...is a roller coaster.

My opinion is that high is better, my doctor (who is also a T1) recently told me that there's a lot more room when you're high and not so much when you're low...  I think lows are more immediately dangerous so I would be careful bolusing before bed.  Good luck:)

Yeah, I'm not going to be in the mood for Thai food for a while ... !

Kim, I actually eat the same breakfast everyday too b/c I have so much trouble w/ post breakfast highs. I'll switch it to a different one every few months if I'm bored. But, I'm impressed you manage that for lunch! I'm not up for that at other meals.

Jana, I usually do bolus before bed, but more conservatively. Luckily, with my CGM, it wakes me up if I drop low in the night. For some reason, waking up after a night of being high makes me feel sooooooo sick that it takes me hours to recover. :P Last night, it buzzed I was 80, I had a juice box, and I woke up at 140, so things could have been worse.

I've never been able to figure out the Chinese/Thai foods.... I generally try to avoid them, or just get something plain with only soy sauce, but it is so very very frustrating!!!!

The last time I had Chinese was x-mas day with my sister up in Rhode Island...granted we drank 2 "Orgy Bowls," but the food had to do with something there too...I woke up from the alcohol induced nap and my glucometer read "Hi". I said "hello" back and proceeded to give myself about 15 units of insulin.

As a rule of thumb, I try to avoid it though

This made me giggle.  Clever, clever.
