Why me?

Nobody in my family has it either, other than Brandan. When you really think about it, would you rather have been diagnosed early in life? I was told it was a good thing for Brandan to be diagnosed as a baby because it would just be a way of life for him and easier to deal with. As much as I would like to believe that, I just can't. He has a lifetime of managing the disease and a much bigger risk of complications because of it. However, I'm only looking in from the outside and I totally understand why others feel differently.

i have had people say the same thing that being diagnosed early it will be a way of life and easier to get used to. but my husband was diagnosed at 14, so he got to have most of his childhood without worry about D. if i could choose to let ezekiel live without it for most of his life, then be diagnosed later, I would.

Keith.  I was 60 when dx and I'm convinced that it was the pneumonia that was the final trigger.  I', too, am the only one with type 1 in the family.  Although my mother is type 2.  BUT I was doing all the things "they" say -eating right, exercise, watching the weight all that kind of stuff to avoid it and I still end up with this curse.  It has destroyed my life and I cannot live like this.

I skimmed through the replies and not sure if this was already said but....

Type 2 actually gets worse the longer you have it no matter how tight your control is... you eventually have to take insulin etc the longer you have it. So it isnt always controlled through diet and excercise. I myself didnt even know this untill recently. I always thought they dont have to take insulin unless they take bad care of themselves. not true.

Type 2's actually have greater risks for complications because 1. they have it for years and dont even know it... 2. alot of the times are unhealthy to begin with and 3. most do not have the motivation to watch their diet and excercise day in and day out. ...My mother works in a dialysis unit. She always says most of the diabetics are T2 in there not T1.

I dont know, i feel like i have more control with T1.. if i wants to eat a package of reeces I know I can take 4-5 units of H and be covered. WHeras if I was T2 I dont really know how they "cover" things.. Im not saying by any means I would Rather have T1 or anything, please dont get me wrong. I just think they both suck!

Diabetes is not easy but you can LIVE!!! How has it destroyed your life?? Mine isn't destroyed just changed a whole lot LOL If you want to talk send me a friend request. Since my dx' I found out I am thankful for everyday, because in my mind they are all extras. If not for Dr. Banting I wouldn't be here to see my new granddaughter, for me it did make flowers brighter, sky bluer and so thankful for every morning I wake up!!!! I've had and lost so much in life that diabetes is just one hump to get over. People often ask me why I always smile, I tell them it's simple my morning started right I WOKE UP !!!!!

I don't like any child hurting!!!! Easier, not in my thoughts. When I was dx'ed I understood what had happened. I lived a fair amount time before. To me a little child not being able to enjoy somethings without the fog(?) of diabetes SUCKS SO BAD!!!!! Diabetes isn't easy for anybody young, old, type 1 and type 2. Just my thoughtss.

I think the reason type 2's often have worse problems because it is quiet. Being type 1 there is no give so to speak, with type 2 you can go years with high bs and not know it. Us on the other hand are quite aware of what's happening to us.  Type 1's have a tendency to be proactive and type 2's are reactive, kind of, hard to explain.
