i reconnected the pump, after taking the weekend off. i put it on my back on the left side, since it was more comfortable last week when i moved it from my stomach to the right side of my back. i looked through the set-up options and changed the bolus rate from 1.0u to 0.1u in an attempt to make bolusing anything over 2u NOT hurt...but all day i've been feeling the basal! not consistently..but enough that it's driving me nuts. and each time i feel it, i gasp, my hand goes back to the site and i tense up.....and whoever is around me freaks out.
I have been wearing an animas pump for a few years now and have never tried putting the needle part in the back but I do think that might be the reason it hurts .I have found that the stomach is the most comfortable part ...I am skinny so that can't be the reason ( i have almost no meat on my stomach.) also changing the basal rate that much could be giving you a lot less insulin than you need ...If you could be more clear on just what you are trying to accomplish I may be able to help I am VERY familiar with the animas pump...it has been a GOD send to me ..and have never had a bit of trouble ...are you changing the site often enough?
Hi Batts. I don't have a ping, but it sounds like you are having trouble with the saline right? or is it just the location? If it is the saline I would turn the pump down to the lowest setting there is, but it sounds like you have already done that. Whenever I have site pain I investigate to make sure that the set is in all the way. Maybe if it keeps up you could try changing again.
you may just be having problems with the inset 30s like I was in the beginning, because if you don't get the angle right it will hurt really bad! I dealt with that for a whole week and changing the set everyday and still couldn't get it right. but now I just the regular insets with a 90 degree on my love handles and it is AWESOME!! it has never hurt me, it is soooo much easier to put in, it is out of the way so I don't even see it and most of the time forget about until I need to bolus. also I thought it would be annoying when sitting in a chair or sleeping, but I don't even feel. If you have one of these, I suggest using it or calling and getting a couple samples!

You had a problem with the 30s? I actually love them, never had a problem. I guess everyone is different. :)

i can't put it on my stomach...i HAVE a stomach and it makes the site stick out and look's awkward and FEELS horrible. the back so far has been the only spot that doesn't bug me 24/7. the pain was even happening with the stomach site. i can't use my thighs cuz they are too thick(i have always had really strong musclar legs so even doing needles is awful as i usually bleed as soon as the needle comes out).
i changed the BOLUS to the 0.01u rate but i donno how to change the BASAL rate so that when it gives me a squirt of insulin every 3minutes, it goes a bit slower so it doesn't hurt.
i'm only on saline atm so i can change the site whenever i want and yesterday was only my second day with that site.

i have no idea what inset i have....i know it's 6mm and i'm pretty sure it's a 90 degree angle as it goes in straight not on an angle into my skin....

yeah day is day 3 so i gotta change it anyways later but i'll just be using the otherside of my back. it's the only spot i think i'll be able to use the pump with unless i manage to lose all my bellyfat in the next week!...but the stomach hurt the worst for sure.
i thought it was the saline cuz it was so cold the first few times..but the saline has been sitting on the counter since he gave me the trial to start and the vial is warm now..but it still hurts..

Sometimes it may hurt because you can hit a blood vessel with the needle and that will cause a burning sensation. And sometimes certain people can't have a site in for too long. Some people may have to change their site in 2 days depending on how it feels to you. Leaving your site in for 3 days is just an estimate not a rule.
hmm it happened a few times the first day, so maybe i did hit a blood vessel but it doesn't happen all the time...which doesn't really make sense right? haha

Yea I was having an awful time with tinset 30s, but since I've switch I have not had any problems and I love pumping now. I was so scared during that bad week that I was going to get too frustrated with it all and give up, but the insets saved me <3 haha
I would be happy to help do want to change the set up of the bolus or the set up of the basal? I know it is different for everyone. Both my kids prefer the stomach. We also use the arm and thigh. I know you mentioned you have a lot of muscle in your thighs that is when the inset 30's might work better. It is a longer canula and goes in at a 30 degree angle. You can change your basal rate by going into basal from the main menu. You can also change your bolus rate by going into advance set up. I didn't know that until the rep showed me how to change Lexi's from 4 hour delivery to a 3 hr delivery. It helped with her BG numbers a ton. Let me know if this helps at all.

=/ i tired that and it lets me change the amount but not how fast its sent into my body which is the problem. it doesnt look like there's an option for that(I've gone through allllll the menu options blah).
i donno if i want to put the site in my thigh anyways..what happens when im working out and my muscle is engaged and tightens? wouldn't that hurt having a cannula in there??
Try putting the site in the upper side of your butt. There's enought cushion there (usually) that it doesn't hurt as bad as some other places. I know it may sound weird at first, but it really isn't that bad- at least for me. (=
my butt is an no-go zone for a very 18+ only rated reason and also because of my clothing. i know that with the pants i wear, it would not work out well...
Batt's in looking at this post you said you were changing the bolus settings to .001 and still feel the pain is that on the audio bolus menu because that will not change the rate in which the basal is delivered. I use the ping so the menu options may be different if you have a different pump. On the second setup screen in the advanded setup menu is the Bolus screen. It has menus items of Adv. Bolus, Reminders, and Delivery. I would make sure that there if you have the option that the delivery is set to slow, which is what I use.
Lol, well that is not good. Has that made you change your mind on the pump completely or will you be trying other models such as the Minimed, which goes in much slower. Either way if you try another pump or are able to, make sure you are gievn a few different infusion set types to try. Maybe a different one will work on the parts of the body that you want to use.
