Twilight Star and Diabetes

We ran an article this morning about Twilight star Kristen Stewart serving as an ambassador at the JDRF event in L.A. Does anyone know if she has a connection to the disease or whether she is just supporting a good cause?

I'm not sure, but in the movie the Panic Room she played a character who had diabetes... I think.
