Sex and the pump

Hello, I have just got on the pump and have not have sex yet, does anyone have any tips/things to avoid/stories/cautionary tales about having sex while on the insulin pump that would be a great help :) thank you

i was worried about sex when i was planning on going on the pump but once i did and i went to have sex it was alright. it was kinda annoying i found having the tubes and shifting around but i didn't have it rip out or get damaged or anything when i kept it on. most of the time i just disconnected, which was kinda annoying and didn't work for quick, spur of the moment sex.

I have found that disconnecting it seems to be the easiest solution for me.  The physical activity makes me run a little lower anyway, so the lost insulin doesn't matter.

I laughed when I saw this b/c when I was on the pump (I'm back on MDI now), the lightest amount of exercise would make me go low. I mean, I'd have to disconnect to walk for 10 minutes to the store. So, to have sex, I'd have to disconnect way in advance to avoid a low. My husband enjoyed the planning and waiting of course, lolol.

But seriously, I'd treat it like exercise, so you may just be able to disconnect.

i always disconnect and deal with whatever my blood sugars do later. i don't have a tendency to run low anyway, so it's never been anything i've worried about.

PS. there are a few forums similar to this under the "adults" group.

Diabetics have sex???? ROFLMAO Sorry couldn't resist.

Recommendation is to disconnect. I've had episodes where I haven't disconnected and ended up having my gf get tangled in the tubing and...well bye bye infusion site. I feel it depends how..."active" you and your partner are going to be. If you are going to move around a lot and things might get tangled, definitely disconnect...if it's just a quickie, maybe stay connected.

Plus, what's the harm in disconnecting for 2 1/2 minutes?

*laughter*

...that's longer than some of my experiences....lol!!!

2 1/2 minutes?? For my wifes sake you've got to tell me your secret ;)

Yup, I'm in agreement here - I never keep it on.

Zing!  Nice one.

Angie,    I usually have my pump in the leg pouch on my thigh.   It doesn't usually get in the way.  If the supid tubing gets pulled I just take the pump off for a while.  No big deal unless you're going for a sex-a-thon.  I check my glucose level before Romeo joins me and then I am sure if it's fine to just take the pump off for a bit.      Lindakaren

this has turned into a hilarious thread.

thumbs up.

My thought...when you take it off...take it ALL off!!  Pump just gets in the way!!

You all are cracking me up. If I ever have a sex-a-thon, I'll think of this thread. Sadly, after a few years of marriage, I'm probably be more likely to have the 2 1/2 minute one. lolol.

2 1/2 minute sexathon!

Okay, just to clear things up, that 2 1/2 minute time period does include:

  • turning off the TV
  • letting the dogs out to do their thing
  • letting the dogs back in
  • getting the coffee maker ready for the morning
  • washing face and brushing teeth
  • setting alarm clock
  • putting the clean sheets back on the bed after laundry
  • and, of course, the......

RIGHT???

AND taking your pump off -- that would be a whole 5 seconds, too!

So 2 min 30 seconds taking off the pump wont do much harm... if he could last that long.. where do you find these guys you lucky woman anything longer than 20 seconds would be a winner LOL

Take it off...it really ruins the mood when it falls off the side of the bed....you're lucky if the infusion site comes out when that happens...I sometimes think the adhesive on those things is gorilla glue...
