i never remember to test when i need to and to get a pump i have to have an average of 4 tests a day and i have to write what i eat and carb counts. any ideas to help me remember?
i used to have a watch with a little alarm clock. you could use a cell phone if you don't like the watch.
i have an OneTouch UltraSmart..i would recommend getting one if you can. it will keep a logbook FOR you, which was always my problem too. I hated carrying those little books around so I never did. I usually went to the endo with an "idea" what my levels had been and a couple of them written down on napkins. haha.
as for remembering...maybe as C suggested, a watch?
I have my crackberry set-up to go off at 8am, noon, 6pm and 10pm to remind me to test..thanks to the calendar where you can set up an alarm for every day at a certain time. that way i know i'm testing at least 4times a day.
Test before every meal and before bed. You gotta know how much R to take, right? That's 4 times a day and easy to remember. As far as writing everything down, yikes. I guess you just gotta as the Nike ads say "Just do it". I have not other advice on that.
The One Touch UltraSmart is a good idea...why not also program the times in a cell phone? If you don't have one, now you have an excuse!
I forgot...also, carry it (the kit/strips/sticker) in a little baggie, like a camera bag or a tiny mini purse. Then, you don't have to do what I call "The Scramble" every time you happen to remember. There's nothing like a miniature (read: also comfortable) baggie to remind you--something that either hangs over the shoulder or on a waist line.
Janna - we were in the same position about getting a pump for our son - we were doing the tests, but just not good at keeping records (esp. on weekends!) and we had to send in 7 days to move to the next step of our clinics process. I just made it a focus for that week and am trying to keep doing it. All the suggestions are good - I just kept reminding myself that the reward for all the hard work is a pump! :)
i just wish that i knew for certain i could get a pump. the endo has pretty much been blowing me off for 4 years and i've just given up i guess. its just worthless

Maybe you should think about finding a new doctor? When I got my pump I didn't have to wait that long, I think it only took a couple of weeks. Don't give up, if you think the pump will help you then find a way to make it work. Something that will help make controlling your diabetes easier is never worthless, it may change your life...hang in there:)
