We’re considering a move to the Bend, OR area and one of our first concerns is obviously care. My insurance site says there’s a PE in Bend, but she also has offices in Portland, so I’m trying to get a sense of what it’s like there for type 1s. Any response would be great!
Hi @cgilbuddy and welcome to TypeOneNation. I think you may find more help by contacting the JDFR west/mountain chapter https://www.jdrf.org/pacificnwandseattleguild/ and see if they can help. You can also contact children’s hospitals and maybe get recommendations that way I hope you have good luck
I used to live in Oregon and spent a lot of time in Bend. It’s a beautiful area, but a small town. You aren’t going to have the same medical infrastructure available as a larger metro area. Whether or not there are good endos is a matter of researching what’s available. It’s still the US, so I’m sure they have good doctors. You just aren’t going to have the breadth of options. It also depends on where you are moving from. If you are used to small towns and making that work vs being from an area with nationally ranked medical facilities. Portland is about 3 hours, so you can supplement with consults there if you don’t mind the travel. Eugene is 2 hours and does have a University of Oregon affiliated hospital. That’s where I used to live. The hospital is in Springfield and was built after we moved, but it’s predecessor and doctors were good. I believe UO system also has a Portland hospital system affiliate.
