Okay, I feel like I'm the only one that thinks famous people suck!
Like, Nick Jonas, who was diabetes. Guess what, all his money bought him super, ultra cool stuff to help him with his BS. Normal people who don't have that kinda money can't buy that kinda stuff. Does he even know how to live without his people doing everything for him.
I doubt that he could live by himself for a month without anyone helping him or reminding him about it. Cause he's a big time rock star who shouldn't care about his health, but use his money to buy someone who will care for him.
Also, all that stuff where he's talking to diabetic kids and like 'caring' about them, I say he's lying his @$$ off to get good publicity!
Famous people shouldn't get treated better than everyone else. It's not right. I bet if he killed his kidneys that he'd get one easy. Cause he's a rock star and his fans would die without his music! Whatever.
This is quite harsh. While Nick Jonas is definitely very lucky to not have to worry about paying for supplies and whatever cool diabetes-related things he wants, I am sure he still understands the disease and knows how to take care of himself.
While I agree we should get the same care they get, I am thankful for the publicity diabetes gets because of them and their money. I have been working my ass off to get public sponsors for diabetes awareness in Iowa. I'm not asking for money - all I'm asking is for them to wear the color blue. But, I am no one. I have no pull in society, and I'm relatively unknown. I've been denied on every front. If Nick Jonas walked into these businesses and asked for their support, he'd get it. For that, I'm thankful.
Because you don't know him or his thoughts or how he feels, you can't say he's lying to those people. Why wouldn't he care about people affected with diabetes just like him? Just because he's famous doesn't mean he doesn't struggle with the emotional and blood sugar rollercoasters we do. I'm sure if he is responsible for his own diabetes, he would be just like the rest of us. He would have periods where he really doesn't give a shit what happens and he would have times when he's working harder than everyone else. Give him a little credit. Infamy doesn't always mean spoiled brat.
On a different note, I'm not thankful for Halle Berry. Because she's crazy.
While I can understand the frustration you feel when comparing his "situation" with the situation most of us live in, I can't say I agree with you. You're choosing to look at only one side of this issue - the side you agree with.
Do you have any idea how much attention he's brought to type 1 diabetes? Do you know that it's people like him who have the influence to get legislation passed (because he's testified before Congress)? Do you know how many times I've been so relieved to hear his name when I tell people I have diabetes? "Oh, isn't that what Nick Jonas has?" Me: "YES, EXACTLY! That's exactly what he has!" He's a much better face for our disease than a lot of other type 1's out there. At least a few more people have come to realize that diabetes comes in more than one type.
I'm not a Jonas Brothers fan. I don't know much about Nick as a person, other than what I know from the media. But I'm pretty sure you're kicking yourself, and all of us, in the shins here.
I won't say I agree, but I don't disagree either. I try to think of it this way: without Nick Jonas there wouldn't be nearly as much diabetes "awareness". Since he chose to make his disease public, every Jonas-loving teeny bopper and their mother (people who normally wouldn't know or care what diabetes is) now knows of the disease and may even want to raise money or spread awareness simply because they love the kid!

What do you all think?

Macy, I think that you have Nick Jonas and other famous people wrong. Nick Jonas has help out alot of children that have diabetes. And he treamed up with Bayer to make the neckleace.
I also kown that Nick could live a mouth with out someone doing everything for him. I have watched vidoes were he talkes about checking himself and when he does a show, If he feels low he talks to his brothersor who ever. And they stall when he goes backstage and checks himself.
alright, i guess i'll be the only guy to comment on this.
am i a jonas brothers fan, not at all, but i know for a fact nick does not have people help him all the time. yea he has money, and yea he can get the latest on testing supplies if it works for him. But he has diabetes just like us and he takes care of himself just like us. most of us have support from our family and thats what he has. thats all.
he has done so much for diabetes awareness, and we cant see what he does without the media knowing as far as helping other peple.
i don't like nick jonas because i dont like his music, and i don't really give a shit about the fact he has diabetes (he's not anymore special than the rest of us) but even i don't go so far as to say he lies to people about caring. yikes. you can't just say that stuff without knowing the person. that's how rumours/lies get spread around. I'm sure if someone you didn't even know said something like that behind your back you'd be pissed off.
I think that his money may make it easier for him to buy supplies and not worry about insurance. But that's about as far as it goes. Beyond that, money and fame doesn't get you out of any of the hard parts of dealing with diabetes. Talk about the great equalizer - he has to deal with all the same crap we do no matter how much money his last record earned. When he's low, none of his fans or family members can feel that for him. He takes the adrenaline hit and feels shaky just like we do. When he's high, none of his fans can run to the bathroom every five minutes and pee for him or feel the sluggish, sick feelings that come with a big high. He has to think about every bite of food that goes in his mouth - just like we do. And no matter how rich he is, he still has to think about stuff that could mar his future like blindness and heart disease and kidney failure and amputations . . . just like the rest of us.
And . . . just like the rest of us, he deserves some credit for getting up everyday, doing the best we can and making the life we want, despite having a disease that can be a pain to live with. I wouldn't know a Nick Jonas song if I tripped over it - but I do have some respect for the things he's done to educate people about this disease. I like that more people know, through him, that people with diabetes can be as successful as anybody else if we take care of ourselves and work hard at achieving our dreams.
That said, I kind of get where you are coming from too. Would be nice to have his money - though I don't think I'd ever want the kind of admiration he gets - kid can't walk down the street without getting mobbed. Fame has costs as well as benefits, I guess.
Interesting question though, that led to interesting conversation!
I dont like him either but I am not 12 so why would I? I think all celebrities are over paid but the public demands them so they get the big bucks. I dont think he is lying and honestly I heard of the Jonas brothers LONG before I heard he had D. I didnt know about the D until after my daughter was dx'ed I dont think most people pay attention to the D part of him unless it relates to them so no I dont think his caring is for publicity.
On a different note, I'm not thankful for Halle Berry. Because she's crazy.

Hahahaha! Hilarious, and I COMPLETELY agree!
At least Nick has brought a ton of awareness to this disease and the hardships of living with it. I'm not a fan of the Jonas Bros or their music (mostly because I am about 20 years older than the target demographic) but I greatly appreciate what he's done to educate and bring awareness to type 1. True, he may not deal with all the same things I do...but then again, I have no idea what it's like to be onstage performing in front of thousands of people and feel like a hypo coming on and have to figure out what to do about it without calling so much attention to it or ruining the show - something I'm sure he's dealt with at least once or twice. Everyone has their different struggles to deal with, famous or not.
My 9 year old daughter says she can face each day because she knows Nick Jonas has to do the same thing. If you lived in any other country but the USA you and Nick would be getting the same care. In the USA money buys health. It is changing but there are powerful forces trying to turn back the clock with their idiotic death panel nonsense.
I think you're making a lot of assumptions that are likely false. Yes his care and fancy supplies are probably purchased or donated to him. However, by him demonstrating commitment to taking care of himself and by advocating for kids with diabetes and research, he stands out as a really good role model for young diabetics. Can't really hold that against him. And hey, if I was rich I'd want all the 'ultra cool stuff' too!
Yeah he's famous and yeah I'm sure he doesn't have to worry about the same things we do money wise but other then that he's still human. He is willing to live a scary part of his life in the public eye. He openly admits that he has diabetes and he pushes for better awareness. Bonus, win win in my eyes.
Although I don't listen to his music or get weak in the knees everytime he's on tv, my 6 year old does. She beams from ear to ear when she hears him talk about diabetes and taking care of himself. She smiles seeing him performing knowing he's just like her, having to poke his finger, watch what he eats and take insulin. She says she can be a rock star too even though she is diabetic and I think that's an important lesson for her to learn (that anything is still possible) and more places that comes from the better. So rock on Jonas, rock on.
I don't mean to offend anyone, but I do not like Nick Jonas. I think that he made his diabetes into a bit of a "pity story" like, he wrote that song about it and it just made me mad..because there are people out there with worse things than diabetes.
And hey, if I was rich I'd want all the 'ultra cool stuff' too!

Couldn't agree more! It is unfortunate that money buys health to a degree here in the States. But, I'm also thankful that I don't have to go on some waiting list for an extended period of time to get a pump or see an endocrinologist!
Now I happen to like Nick Jonas as a person. His music is really more for kids my daughter's age. He has a Contour USB meter as does me. I enjoy his wit and wisdom and is a great role model for kids. Appreciate the good he has done and not whether or not you like him.
I give Nick Jonas a high five. His fame and fortune isn't any different than anyone in Hollywood! Heck, I'm jealous of them all :-)
He's done nothing but a greater good for awareness and recognition of juvenile diabetes. My daughter is a proud member of the "Nick Jonas fan club" that our diabetes clinic organized, and happily wears her medic alert necklace proud (you know, the one Bayer and Jonas sent to thousands, amongst thousand of type 1 diabetic children world wide).
And best of all, it makes everyone realize that celebrities aren't immune from illness.
