I called a local hospital with a diabetes education center and asked if they had any free one touch test strips. She didnt but called a one touch rep and they sent me overnight 100 test strips and a tester! I was so worried we have 25 left until the 8th or 9th. So YAY to that. Oh and that lady told me there is a Endo in town here who can help us. There is a waiting period but we have someone she can see until we can get her in down here so YAY.
I am really bombing at this MDI stuff. I do a 1:10 or 1:15 ratio for Riley with a 1:50 correction for anything over 150. 2 hours after she eats she is still in the high 200 to 300's. For the past week and a half I have not logged anything and so badly need too. I have so much going on with my son he is having grand mals all the time his first set of meds didnt work so we are switching to a different kind. He needs almost constant supervision so other than making Riley her food and giving her her insulin there is not time for anything else but I have to find a way cause I have to get her numbers down.
maybe she needs a different correction dose? for as long as i can remember mine has always been around 1:2. when i was really young i think it was 1:3 or 1:4..
maybe the math is different though? 150 is 8.3 for me, and i target for a 6.0 so if i was 12, or 216, i would give myself 3units

Don't use Batt's correction doses though, b/c she's in Canada. (:
lol No I wont be using that. Plus she is her and RIley is Riley. I tend to round down and should start rounding up for Riley. Which I just started doing. Diner time I still do a 1:20 ratio and I need to lower that as well. Me fearing night time lows is going to mess her up in the long run. So its time to put my big mommy undies on and really work on getting her numbers in a normal range more often than not.
If you're worried about nighttime lows, it might ease your mind to use a baby monitor. If you start playing with the ratios you might want to consider testing Riley in the middle of the night for a week or until you get it figured out. It sounds scary but finding control requires a lot of trial and error, and she hasn't even reached puberty yet. Good luck.
If she is above 190 I test at 4 a.m. if she is below I test her at 2 and 4 as well which has only happened maybe 3 times. During the week she gets up at 6:30 and has only been down to 75 at the lowest by then. I am just afraid she will start at 150 and drop way to much. Her numbers can drop over 100 points at night no problem so its hard. I also think it depends on the foods and how high she starts out like in the 300's she will be normal in the morning but if she starts at 190 then she seems to only go down a little.
She has reached puberty no periods yet but things are uhm growing and changing for her. Maybe that is why I cant seem to get a hold on her numbers at all right now.
If she's dropping by 100 points at night, while she's not injecting or eating, she may need to lower her dose of long-acting. If she's high after meals, she may need more short-acting and less long acting. You may want to ask her dr about that... I don't think that's normal to drop so much during the night. Ugh, having to get up twice in the night -- you must be tired!
I find going to bed at 140-150 is a great number for me, but the recommendations may be different for kids, so maybe ignore that. (:
She is just crazy she was down to 130 at 8 p.m (2.5 hours after eating) I tested her at 9:30 and she went up to 246! The lady we see doesnt want her over 150 but from what I have read for her age 180 is fine.
