Newly diagnosed while pregnant

Just curious if anyone was diagnosed Type I while pregnant?

At 26 weeks pregnant I did the routine 1hr GTT and failed, followed by the 3hr GTT which I failed as well. Initially they thought it was just gestational diabetes but after a few frustrating weeks and a visit with endocrinology I was diagnosed Type I (positive GAD ab).

I am now 32 weeks along. I will be 30 years old in December, expecting my 1st baby in December and I’m just trying to wrap my head around this diagnosis. It’s been overwhelming to say the least.

On a more positive note, my A1c was 5.5 at diagnosis and baby is doing great

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Hi there in 1985 I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes I was 19 pregnant newly married. Over the following 8 years I was pregnant 7 times, 4 girls were born healthy and happy, 3 boys were miscarried in the first trimester. As each pregnancy finished the diabetes dissapeared. My first 3 girls were all over 8 lb and were weak at birth, they were all induced early so were treated as prem babies needing specialist care until over a few days they gained strength and their low blood sugars were monitored closely. My fourth daughter was induced four weeks early as there was concern about the fat around her heart. I had a long labor and after failing to progress I went in for my first caesarian, lucky because she was 11lb7oz and very very weak. Although she looked very healthy in the prem unit next to the 2lb babies she struggled through her first few days to try to do anything but sleep but she came right. I have four beautiful healthy girls but wish I had a forum like this back then. After my last big baby I remaind a type 1 diabetic and went onto an insulin pump 5 months ago. I am really very informed about what your going through please ask any questions but never be put off having babies by this dumb disease they are sooo worth it
