New

Hello everyone, I'm not sure if I am even posting this in the right place if not please forgive. This is all new to me and I dont talk about it very much only four people know that I have diabetes none of my family know.   Just wanted to stop in and say hi I guess once I figure this all out I will post more.

Welcome!  This is a great place to talk to ask questions, answer questions, offer advice, or just meet and connect to more people with diabetes.  We're always here :)

hopefully opening up to all of us here will help you open up to more of your family and friends. diabetes is a part of you and nothing to be ashamed of. everyone here can tell you life goes on after a diagnosis of diabetes.

we are here to help you. welcome to the site :o)

Welcome!  I think you'll find this site immensely useful - I know I have.  Sometimes the questions you come across can only be best answered by those who are also in your position, and this site is great for that.  We're all here to sympathize, encourage, and support.

Welcome. It's still kind of new for me also, about 1 1/2 years. You found a great place for us!!

Hello and welcome. This site is great. Great place to post questions, or like myself, answer them.

Welcome. Im new myself ive only been on here for a couple weeks and was diagnosed only a few days befor i joined. Everyone here has alot of great advice even if you dont post much.

Hello, everyone, Wow thank you all for the warm welcomes that was very nice to see after speaking with my doctor.  Her nurse called ta let me know that I have to increase my meds by two in the am and pm :(  I know that is not a real big deal but Im still trying to come to grips with having diabetes. I guess the stage Im in right now is denial right now.

Anyway enough of that pity party. How are you guys?

Welcome.

Hope you don't mind me asking but why do only 4 people know?  Is it because you are ashamed of having diabetes?

I really hope not!?!?!

Tiffany May I ask why none of ur family kown that u have diabetes

Some people who just find out big things like this need a bit of time to come to terms with it themselves befor they tell there family and friends.

[/quote] Hello Jaimie, I don't wanna worry them nor do I want them to treat me  like I'm fragile.

that is how i was when i told my boyfriend and i have had diabetes for 11 years

Hey Tiffany - I'd like to share a couple of thoughts.

1.  How people treat you, in reference to your diabetes, is in large part dependent upon how you treat it.  Although you're still dealing with the blow of diagnosis now, as time passes, you'll gain knowledge, and with that - strength.  When people realize that you are not scared of it, they won't be either.  The best thing you can do right now for yourself - and for those you love - is to educate yourself, and share that with those you love.  Which brings me to point number two...

2.  Although you may see it as a form of protecting them, it's really in your best interest to tell at least immediate family.  I don't mean to scare you, but what if something goes wrong, and you need help?  What if you wind up in the hospital, and your family has to answer medical questions about you?  Catastrophe aside, this is a huge part of who you are now.  You've got support here, but it will help to have people around you who know a bit about it, and what to do for you when you need help.

Best wishes.

Hi Tiffany,

I think you should tell people even if they treat you like you are fragile. If you pass out from a low or somthing then they will not know why. Plus it is a great change to educate other people about the disease so they don't treat any diabetic like they are fragile.

Good evening everyone, I read all the post from today/lastnight and your right I do need to tell my family/ friends. I have decided to let my sister know who is very close to me and would understand why Ihave waited to say anything. Thank you all for the support and for giving me that little push I needed so I could tell my family. I hope it's as easy as it was for me joining this site with such amazing ppl. THnak you again.

Welcome.  I might not post much, but it is a great place to remember you are not alone, when you feel like you are.  You could find info about so many things here!!
