I don't typically post much here but I have been using it as a resource since I found out I was pregnant. I had an OB appointment today and my husband and I were just told that we are expecting twins! It has taken me all morning to process this and I am still in shock but I am concerned how this might complicate the pregnancy even more. Does anyone have any experience with twins? I have checked a couple of different sites but it doesn't seem like there is any information. Thanks!
Congratulations! Did you talk with your doctor about what the implications are for twins and a T1 pregnancy?
We definitely talked about T1 before finding out that it was twins but afterward he just told me that I should see the maternal fetal medicine doctor and they should be able to help me with both. Even though we are really excited about the twins we both are a lot more nervous.
Hi Amander5,
I am currently pregnant with twins as well. They were spontaneous; no IVF and we're not that old (30 years old). I was already seeing a maternal fetal medicine doctor, who has a well-organized clinic. They have a certified diabetes educator who works exclusively with the clinic, which has been very helpful with coordinating appointments and care. When my husband and I found out I was pregnant with twins, we were both excited and nervous. The emotions have continued to fluctuate. When I spoke with my CDE, she said that twins will increase my insulin needs as the pregnancy continues, but other than that, we should be okay. Have you been reading the book Balancing Pregnancy with Pre-Existing Diabetes: Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby, by Cheryl Alkon? Very informative, with a small amount of info on T1 and twins. I recently checked out the book Everything You Need to Know to Have a Healthy Twin Pregnancy by Gila Leiter, M.D., which focuses only on twin pregnancy. I've found that I can get the information that I need by reading a variety of materials.
How far along are you? I am at 15 weeks. It's good to know that there are other T1 women pregnant with twins at the same time I am!
Congratulations and best of luck.
Erin
