PS. Re: Joslin Medal. Glad you can be proud getting award sister won’t get. Being somewhat shy I didn’t participate & excel in as many things as did my younger sisters. When I passed 50 yr mark of T1 14 yrs ago I was still pretty healthy & active. I applauded those getting longevity awards as I read about in ADA Forecast. At same time thought then that it seemed a little odd of me to get a medal for having lived a long time w/ a disease. As I aged my thinking changed. I began thinking that Lilly Diabetes Journey Awards then Joslin might be only medals I get at my age. By golly I did want a longevity award! Have you applied for Lilly Diabetes Journey Award? Just search for Lilly Diabetes Journey Awards. Then you will have 2 awards your sister won’t have.
My sister has always been the extravert. I enjoyed playing to play rather than for the sake of the win. I’m not familiar with that second award - I’ll check it out. Thanks!
Hi Henry.
I’ve now lives with T1D x 62 years. I’m 66 today.
I’ve never applied for the medal but feel like I should. A little recognition for those of us who don’t remember what it was like NOT to be a T1.
I would truly find it hard to believe that one of us would be disqualified for complications. At this point I consider myself a tough old bird. I’m going to look into it as well. We deserve it!!
Richard
No questions on complications. Rec’d medal in Sept.
Go for it! BTW, the medal is quite impressive and comes in a very nice padded box to match. I’m not used to things quite so fancy so I have to decide where I’m going to display it.
