I could use some help!

On friday I am going to a lock-in. I am going to be working there cause my bible study are the ones planing it all. I am also in a sikt too...I am one of the party people but I dont kown if i should take my pump off when I do the skit or if i should just leave it on while i am doing the skit. I kown that I am going to be doing a lot of wolking around the church and helping do things...there is also going to be games to... I am staying all night there and i really dont plan on sleeping that night. There is going to be a sleep around a room for the girls and a room for the boys..I am going to keep all  my stuff in the girls sleeping room. but i dont kown if i should keep like a snack in my pocket or what i should do. I could really use some advice here.

why would you take your pump off? As long as you can attach it to your pants or something, I don't see a reason to take it off.

If you don't think you'll have quick access to a snack if you go low, then a small package of lifesavers or something in your pocket might be a good idea.

Batts, the only reason why i thought that i would take my pump off for is when i do the skit how it will be in my pocket and i dont want people seeing it. Thanks for the advice

Meh, people aren't going to notice the pump in your pocket. And if they do, they probably won't know what it is and assume it's a cell phone or something. You have nothing to worry about. Everyone would be focused on the skit anyway. I agree with Batts - don't take it off unless your BG is low/going low. I also agree with keeping a small snack or something in your pocket if you won't have access to food otherwise.

Focus on having fun :o) Sometimes it's okay for diabetes to take a little back-burner when you're doing fun activities.

skit = ? you mean a play or some other kind of thing ? Please excuse my ignorance. Can you tuck your pump into your bra so noone will see it? that is what i do when i want to hide it. Either in the middle part of my bra or under my armpit. If you are wearing pants i suggest what batts did have some lifesavers or something but, where will you have your blood meter? Do others at church know you have diabetes? I think it is a good idea to let someone know just in case something should happen. I am sure your church friends would be very understanding of your condition and it is nothing to be ashamed of. I don't think you should hide the fact that you have diabetes. Just sayin'

yes gina a skit is a play. My 2 older brothers will be there too and so will my best friend jessica that grandma is a type 1 diabetic. yes i will have my meter with me but i dont kown if i should leave it down in the girls room or i i should have it with me. and thanks for all the advice

can you carry a small bag with you that you could put your meter and a quick fix snack into?

not really i am going to be going thought out the church alot...But i think that i am going to take the metter and the lace thing and the strips and put them in my pocket....is there any sugget for what i can do the next day i am going to be up all night but i dont kown how that is going to do to my BS's.

whatever happens to your BGs will work themselves out. the highs will come back down and the lows can be treated with food. just make sure you have some snacks/sugary stuff handy. don't get too worked up about it. in the whole scheme of life with diabetes, one day isn't going to make too much of a difference :o) just go have fun.

Thanks C that does help alot

Hello Jaimie,

I hope you feel a little better about wearing your pump (especially if you will be doing a lot of back and forth) it really is in your best interest to keep it on all the time.  I'm sure by now you know when is a good time to take it off but; for the most part keeping it on all the time is the best bet.  As far as snacks and not being sure if you should have some on hand, the answer is absolutely!  If you have to carry a small tote bag or back pack with at least one juice box or soda and a high carb snack.  I'm sure you already know all of this but since you  were wondering I thought I would mention it.

Since you mentioned bible study I am assuming you are a christian so I'll leave you with this last thought:

Romans 2:19 says: " In the belief that you are a guide to the blind, a light to those in the dark,"

Proverb 3:26 states: "For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot  from being caught" NKJV)

and Hebrews 10:35 says "Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward" (NKJV)

In other words be confident in who you are always let your light shine as an example to others Type 1 diabetes, pump and all!  Your great reward will be God's blessing upon you for being obedient to his word, and taking care of your temple (body) as he instructed.

Enjoy your lock out! and Be Blessed,
