Since I've been diagnosed, when I was seven, nine years ago, I've been to the hospital about seven times, all for high blood sugars and ketosis. Even before I got diagnosed I dehydrated really fast, so they think that might be part of it. My only diabetic friend has gone to the emergency room like four times, all for low blood sugars, never high.
I'm just curious to know how many times everyone else has gone because of low or high blood sugars.
i've never gone to the hospital for diabetes related stuff (just lucky, i guess). however i've been to the hospital PLENTY of times for un-d things. i guess it evens out :o)
I was In the ER one time, and that was the day I got diagnosed, and I spent 3 days in the hospital after that. Other than that, ive never had to go back in almost 4 years, thank God.
Countless. I lost track at 24. I was always sick or having high sugars growing up. This pretty much stopped when I got my insulin pump in 1995. Since getting my pump I have had 5 ER visits for diabetes.
I have never been hospitalized for my diabetes, with the exception of when I was diagnosed- I was in the hospital for a week then.
I was in the hospital for 5 days when I was like five or six (before diabetes) because my asthma was so bad, but besides that I've never been there for an extended stay.
Oh, and in February of this year I dislocated my knee cap at school and was taken to the ER in an ambulance, but then I was released about an hour later. I don't really remember any of that though because the drugs the paramedics gave me for the pain made everything foggy.
ive had diabetes forf about 5 years now and i have gone 2 the hospital about 6 times mostly because when i get the stomach virus i cant keep anything down (water) so i eventually go into dka. its not like i'm going in becasue i'm a bad diabetic
since i was diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago, i have been to the emergency room 3 times(not including being diagnosed). all for d.k.a mostly because i was really dehyrated. i am making one of my school year goals is not to be hospitalized, always a great goal.
Hi, Adriana. I don't feel there's such a thing as a "bad" diabetic. Everyone cares for themself differently. Even if someone ends up in the hospital for d-related issues, they are not a "bad" diabetic. They're simply having a rough time. :o) Glad to hear things have gone fairly well for you!
i've gone to the emergency department (they're not just a room anymore...lol) 5-10 times for stomach bugs. nausea, vomiting, diarrhea...leads to dehydration. poor blood sugar control. i probably wouldn't have gone in for just stomach bugs if i wasn't a diabetic, though. so not directly d-related, but i guess it's indirectly so.
When I was younger I had to be taken by ambulance to the ER for hypos many times, I couldn't even guess how many times. The last time that happened was in 2001, I had 2 very bad hypos in 2 days. I've been lucky enough (knock on wood) since then and have had no d-related ER visits.
Ive been to the E.R. once for my diabetes but it was when I was diagnosed i dont know if you consider that lol but Ive been to the E.R. LOTS of times for other stuff general stupidity and injuries haha the hospital practically had a room reserved for me.
i have never been for d realted stuff, just for other things, like flu, which if you think about it is kinda d realted cause if i didn't have d i wouldnt have gone to the er lol
Three times that I can think of. Once was diagnosis, another time was in college when I passed out so completely and freaked my roommate out, and once after a low while driving. The last was the worst and really woke me up to my treatment and needing to take better care of self.
i have been to the hospital 2 times 4 d- related stuff on time for dka and once i had a seizure 6 days before Christmas it was really scary , was talking weird and doing weird stuff. and one time i broke my arm like one inch below my shoulder.
Probably a half a dozen or so. When diagnosed of course for about a week. Then 3 times in an ambulance that I can remember. I know there were a few others. At least those I didn't have to stay more than a few hours, but how humiliating! It hasn't happened in 16 years (typed while knocking on wood). Never for high blood sugar (again typed while knocking on wood).
