Hello from a mother of a T1 toddler

hello... just wanted to introduce myself.

I'm a single mother of a type one, 4 year old who was diagnosed at 2.5 years of age. To date I have yet to start networking with other parents of T1 children but hope that this site will change that a bit.. We live in Canada and I have been trying like crazy to find a suitable daycare/preschool for him so that I can return to work... the resources and knowledge seem to be scattered or lacking altogether... in this region at least. It has certainly been a challenging experience in general medically, financially and emotionally since my son's diagnosis

I hope to get to know some of you better, best of luck to you all.

Hi Trin,  welcome to Juvenation - glad you found us, even though I think we'd all prefer to have met under different circumstances.  :)  I hope you'll find this community as supportive and full of information as I have.  There's always someone here to listen or give advice when you need it.

Take care,

Kim

Hi and welcome to Juvenation!!!!

Hi Trin. My son is also 4 and was diagnosed when he was 12 months old. I am really nervous about finding a school for him too so I know exactly how you feel. I found Juvenation about a year ago. Until then I had no contact with parents of babies or toddlers with T1D. Welcome!

Welcome to Juvenation! We are glad to have you here :o) This is a fantastic place to come for resources, friendship, and support. There are many, many people here in your similar situation. Hopefully you'll be able to get in touch with some people from your area! Good luck :o)

Welcome Trin!  Glad you are here....when you get used to the sight and find your way around, there are groups you can join and I am pretty sure there is a group for parents!!  Just thought I'd let you know!  I have been type 1 since I was 10 years old.  I am now 35 and doing pretty well.  Again, WELCOME!!!

Hi,

Sounds like we are in the same situation, My son was diagnosed 4 days ago and he is 2 years old. I know this is going to be a long journy ahead but hopefully with great friends and a big support group we can all over come things!

Leesa

Welcome to you, too Leesa :o) I'm happy to see so many new members!

Hi Trin!  Welcome!  This is a great place to meet other people!  I have 3 boys with type 1, all diagnosed as toddlers, so I know you have had your work cut out for you the past couple years!  I have some blogging friends in Canada, and they struggle with finding schools that will cooperate.  There aren't the laws that we have here in the US to help protect and help these little ones.   Much love to you!   You can find the link to my blog on my profile page.  The ones from Canada are  The Ride of Our Life with Type 1 Diabetes, and Jonathon's Journey.

Good luck!

Hello Trin and Leesa, It is good that you have joined us here. This is an excellent website for support since there are many members with very young diabetic children.

I was diagnosed in 1945, when I was 6. It was a rough time with diabetes in my first several decades, so little was known about diabetes. I want you to know that, with good control, your children can have long, healthy lives with type 1. It will be much easier than it was in my childhood. It is wonderful that you can take advantage of the better knowledge and the modern day technology, that are now available.

Good luck to you and your children.

Richard

Thank you for the welcome everyone... it is greatly appreciated
