My son is thinking of getting it because it is tubeless.
No, I am on the mini-med. I thought about the omni-pod, but for me, I'm afraid I would always be knocking it loose or sweating it off. It's easier for me ot change an insert. But, I'm 36 years old. I don't care anymore (ha ha ha). I can understand a tubeless set. May be the way to go for him. Remeber this, I don't know how old he is but the "pod" does not have a cgm.
I looked at it and I was going to get it but my insurance wouldnt cover it. I have the minimed now. I liked the OmniPod, but it didn't stay on very well when I had a clinical tester which worked almost exactly like the real thing. The pod is really big on smaller bodies and it catches easily
Hi, im 15 and just got mine in the mail about a week ago. I got it for the same reason NO TUBES!!! I would recommend if hes into sports and not taking shots anymore. Write me back if you have any Q's.
Hi, I'm 18 years old and I LOVE my OmniPod. I have been on it since July and could not ask for anything better. In the past 7 months I have only had one pod have an occlusion (when the cannula that sticks into your body clogs) and one other get knocked off (I stood up at school from my desk and knocked it because it was on my stomach) I was able to keep a big bandaid over it until I needed to change it the next day. Other than that there have been no issues with them falling off or not working properly.
I chose the OmniPod because it is tubeless and small. If you think about it, there is a lot less attached to you and a lot less to carry around. I'm free to keep my PDM where ever I need it. For example, yesterday I went skiing for the first time and I was able to keep my PDM, smarties, and meter (because that is part of the PDM) in my pocket safely protected by my jacket. It was the ultimate convenience. I was able to test my blood sugar at the top of a mountain :-)
I am an extremely skinny, high school girl who has never once been asked about my pod because no one at school ever sees it! It truly is not noticeable even under tight clothing. I wear the pod on my stomach and back, both just above my pants. I also have been using my arms. I have had more issues with bumping it on my arm, but nothing painful or a problem.
I love that there is only one shot every 3 days. And I LOVE the automatic insertion. All you do is press a button, pinch up your skin a little and it does all the work. I would hate to have to manually insert the cannula and this completely eliminates that.
Okay, enough about the good, I will tell you the things I dont like as well. I dont even use 80 units of insulin in 3 days (that is the minimum you must fill it with) so I have been wasting a little bit of insulin with each pod use...not the best thing when my parents insurance has an extremely high deductible.
Well, that's all the bad I can think of! Which is really a good thing considering there is only one item on the list! Please, if you have ANY questions about the OmniPod I will answer them! Don't hesitate to ask!
I am 18 years old as well and have been on the OmniPod for almost a year now. It was my first choice for a pump especially since it was tubeless. In high school I was able to keep the PDM in my locker and not have to worry about it and at college it's usually in my dorm room unless I am going to be on the other side of campus or off campus...then I put it in my bag. It is also really nice to be able to use the PDM as a meter as well so I don't have to carry a meter during the day.
It is small and I have rarely had any problems with it not sticking. If the adhesive does rip i just put some athletic tape over it and it'll stay for the rest of the time. I have also only had one problem with an occlusion.
The bad thing about it is that it can be painful if it gets bumped. I was volunteering with some kids and one of them elbowed me and hit the pod and my eyes started tearing up it hurt. Also the automatic insertion is nice but I'm not a big fan of not knowing exactly when it's going to insert.
Like LauraJ said any more questions feel free to ask...there's also a couple other forums about the OmniPod as well that you might want to check out.
Best wishes
