Hey everyone!
I’m sure many of you saw my post on this website asking people to participate in my survey about a potential association between viral triggers and the onset of T1D. I’m happy to report that my project is completed; it won me a gold medal and an invitation to participate in the state-level competition! Several people said they’d like to see my results, so I’ve attached a link to my full report; data analysis and conclusions are at the bottom.
Thank you all so much for participating!!
Congratulations, Abigael! What an awesome achievement. Thanks for sharing your research - I am going to pour over it. Good luck with the state level competition, and well done for being a diabetes advocate.
Abbie @bookwormnerd13,
Thank you very much for posting and sharing your study report. Very well written.
You provided me with some food for thought, broadening my knowledge while also confirmed some of my thoughts and understanding about diabetes.
Yes, I’ve added your report to my library.
Thank you for sharing your report. I am interested in your findings. I had a GI virus prior to my diagnosis of T1D and they feel that is what triggered mine.
Congratulations and thank you for sharing…
Congratulations! Impressive
Abigael,
I am interested in your research as I am a LADA. I am trying to find a cause for myself. About two years prior to my onset of T1D, I was told that I have Metaplasis Metaplasia - Wikipedia. Both of them are new to me. I couldn’t explain it. If you continue to do the research, please keep me informed.
Gigi
This is very impressive. Great job and congratulations!
I had Coxsackie flu virus about 6 months before being diagnosed with T1. I was so sick I could barely get out of bed and when I got better, I was constantly thirsty. cf: Coxsackievirus is a virus that belongs to a family of nonenveloped, linear, positive-sense single-stranded RNA viruses, Picornaviridae and the genus Enterovirus, which also includes poliovirus and echovirus. Wikipedia
Scientific name: Human enterovirus A, B
Rank: Species
Higher classification: Enterovirus
Did you know: Coxsackievirus got its name because it was first found in the town of Coxsackie, located south of Albany in New York.
Congratulations! The future for T1D research is bright.
My son was diagnosed back in 2013. About 6 months beforehand he had shingles. Very odd for a 9 year old (at the time) to have. A friend of mine who’s son is also T1D said get son had the hand, foot mouth virus before he was diagnosed. In the back of my mind I have always wondered if these viruses did have anything to do with the pancreas attacking itself. I will read your doc with an open mind. TY
I just read your report. It was very well written and insightful. (My four-year-old grandson was diagnosed shortly after having what seemed to be the flu. )
Congratulations on a job well done!
