Don't you think it's time that the JDRF drop the "J"?

If by using this site I contradict myself, then I guess I should stop using this site. I actually forgot I had a membership here at all until I started getting comments in my email.

I've heard good things about the JDRF in the U.S., but in Canada they're all about THE CHILDREN. Every fundraiser is for THE CHILDREN. I volunteered for the local JDRF speakers bureau and they sounded very enthusiastic to have me and said they wanted to use me as a speaker. Then I never heard from them again. They invited me to an event where they said "There will be opportunities for parents to meet other parents and there will be games for the kids." Nothing for the adult diabetic people. The only time they contact me is when they want money. I'm happy to give them money, because I want to fund research, but I refuse to attend any of their walks, parties, dances, banquets, breakfasts or conferences because I am 42 years old and I'm tired of hearing about THE CHILDREN constantly.

I tried to form my own support group. I contacted the JDRF for help. Surprise; I got nothing. They're interested only in THE CHILDREN, not the 40-plus-year-old diabetic people. The Canadian Diabetes Association formed a support group for adults with Type 2 and another for "young" adults with Type 1 -- those who are 18 to 30. I'm too old for that group too.
