Looking for anyone in and around the area to talk to about diabetes and pregnancies! I want to start TTC next year and would be great to hear from other women who are going through the same thing!!
I live in a northern suburb of Chicago, so not that close, but I recently gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. I've been an 'uncontrolled' diabetic for 23 years (I'm 28 now). I had extra amniotic fluid, but that was the only complication throughout my entire pregnancy. My daughter, Autumn, was born October 20th. She was big, 8lbs, 21 in. I was able to have her naturally with no medications at all (except for giving myself insulin throughout labor). I'd love to help if you have any questions. I was always told I could never have children by my endos over the years and obviously that is not so.
Hi Michelle! Congrats on your baby girl!! What was your a1c while trying to conceive and also during your pregnancy? my husband and I REALLY want to start trying in Feb but my last a1c in Nov was 7.8. I would love to get it down to 7 before we start but would a 7.4 be horrible to try to conceive?

I wasn't really trying to conceive and I don't know what my a1c was before hand, but just after (about 2 months in) it was at 7.2. At that time it was the lowest it had ever been in my life. I'm 28 and have been diabetic for 23 years. During pregnancy I was able to keep it in the 6s, the lowest being 6.4 in the middle of the pregnancy. You just have to make taking finger pokes a priority and I had to change the way I thought about blood sugars. While being pregnant 150 was considered high. I never thought anything under 250 was bad. I would take a unit of Novolog if I was 150.
I had one issue during pregnancy which was having extra amniotic fluid. Other than that, everything was perfect. I'm no doctor, but being at 7.4 didn't give me any problems. Good luck!
