I am currently on the Omni Pod but I am having a lot of problems with it so while I was researching other tubeless pumps I came across this! its awesome, its PDM is like an iPhone it has apps, work out programs, and duh its touch screen! I am very excited about it. It is due to be released later this year I was curious if anyone else had heard or was excited about it!
Maybe one day, they can only do so much at a time. All pumps have a lot of processes to go through before they can go on the market so I'm happy this one is close to being out!
It does look cool. I like how it keeps the journal of what you eat, exercise, etc. That could be really helpful. But really, doesn't really do anything you can't already do. Just with more whiz bang geeky features.
They are a British company located about 1/2 mile from Buckingham Palace. I wonder if we can even get them in US. Do they have to be approved by FDA first? The whiz bang featured are cool, but how good is the punp itself? Looks like a new company.
Now what would really be cool is a pump with a built in CGM that runs on one thing stuck in you skin.
definitely looks way cool, but i agree with ajax - it's going to take awhile before it's ever approved/marketed in the US, and by then who knows what the US companies will have come up with. i like the idea of everything in one (all the apps + meter + insulin pump). handy dandy. i also like ddrummin's suggestion of having the pump site/cgm in one. wearing 2 separate sites is a bit of a pain in the ass.
I agree too, C. I heard that Medtronics has a closed loop system approved in Europe that shuts off when your cgm says blood glucose is getting low and will turn on again when readings improve. But it need FDA approval here. It seems like a simple process to me, and it is supposed to give you warnings so you can over ride if necessary. It really seems like a no brainer but the almighty FDA must have their say so on it. The cgm probably always will need to be located away from the infusion I believe. The insulin would change the accuracy in the area of the sensor. Maybe they can make a smaller, more comfortable sensor to wear. And maybe, just maybe, some one will get a cure or cures and all of the insulin pump companies will go out of business. Not that I wish them ill well, as they have helped me in dealing with my disease but they could go on to work on cancer or some other dastardly illness. Just wishin'...
I couldn't tell from the video....is it about the same size as the new Pod that's coming out later this year? And, is it an automatic insertion, or a more traditional "infusion" type site (that's a big deal to kids...and won't I be happy when the Pod has a blue cannula?!?). The activity log would be great. And, does it have more programmable segments for IC and corrections, or just the standard four running from midnight to midnight (that limitation irritates the heck out of me)?
I would be really interested to see what type of reporting format is available on the download; the CoPilot system that handles the OmniPod data simply does not create reports that are of much use to my endo, so we don't use it. If I could just download data in a format my endo can use for programming adjustments, and send it electronically, I'd be thrilled. But, that's just me :)
