I use a reusable ice pack on the area that I am going to insert my sensor into. This will cause your body to pull some of the small capillaries away from your skin surface thus reducing the bleeding. I really struggled with bleeding before I started this prep like more than 60% of my sensor insertions drew blood and now maybe 10% do.
This is a very old thread, but I thought I would add my own 2c on the question of bleeding upon sensor insertion with the Medtronic 670G system. I used to have significant bleeding problems, too, and adopted something similar to jdiesel’s comment just above, but with a twist. I’m now well below 10% with bleeding, but before I made the changes, I had two different episodes in which I had to abandon three sensors due to immediate bleeding, and only the fourth worked.
My procedure now has two additional parts. I rub an ice cube directly on the site for 30 seconds before the insertion. And I lightly pinch the skin with fingers and thumb on opposite sides of the serter before the insertion and hold the pinch until I’ve removed the needle. The whole insertion area is on a little hill. My intent here is to minimize unnecessary overshoot of the needle through the whole procedure. It may be pure superstition on my part, but I think this helps beyond just the effect of the ice. FWIW.
