Okay so i've been diabetic for a little over 4 yrs. Why does my body STILL go through these little spurts of now I make insulin, now I don't. I've been trying to get my sugar controlled so that I can get a pump, but I can't get my insulin adjusted right. For a while, my pancreas will produce next to no insulin, but then it will start andI'l;l back off the insulin. All of a sudden, my sugar is high again. What is up with that? The honeymoon phase is only within the first yr right?
Really? Because mine told me they wouldn't... That's cool that they're giving you one though. I'm changing my endocrinologist soon anyways... I need someone closer to me.
my endocrinologist is really nice and is one that encourages you to get a pump. but she doesnt force you to get one wich is good because ive met some of her other patients that arent interestad in pumps
I have a hypothesis about that, Seth. It's been proven that the body can regenerate beta cells. It seems to me that the body may occasionally regenerate some beta cells, so you're producing a little insulin which makes you go low, then they get attacked again and destroyed by the immune system, so you go high again. Just my thoughts. I see that same thing happen over and over again in my daughter, and her honeymoon ended almost 2 years ago.
if you can get it controlled enough to have at least a 7 on your A1c's well according to my health professionals, you can go on the pump. i was told that for 8 years until this last summer i kept saying no. why i didn't get one sooner? i don't even know.

I've never had an A1c under 9.3 (yes, i know I'm a fail of a diabetic) even WITH the pump.
Seth it may be other factors that are causing your blood sugars to go crazy, like exercise, fiber/fat content in the meals you eat, stress, so many variables.
I know exactly how you feel. I was diagnosted as a type 2 actually in 07, but recently rediagnosed as a type 1. My sugars are constantly in the 4 and 5oo's+ and I feel fine. Only sometimes I notice I'm very fatigued. It sucks because I get really moody and it interferes in my personal life. My doctor wants to put me on the pump, but she says I have to wait so that she can know exactly what type of insulin doses I need. At first I couldn't do exercise because I was spilling too many ketones as well and I lost a little ove 30 lbs in a month. Now I'm able to exercise and when I do..I notice my levels are more controlled. Maybe you could try that. I wish you the best because I know how frustrating it can get. Sometimes my friends and family act like its my fault my sugars are out of control and when I'm sick and irritable ahh i just wana yell at them. LOL well good luck..I hope you get the pump soon too; i hear it's really good :)
I agree with dylan, there are so many variables....for example i've been exercising a lot for the last few weeks and as a result i've needed so much LESS insulin than before. the difference is astronomical and it almost does seem that my pancreas is producing insulin again, when really its just diet and exercise that make such a big difference. best of luck :)
