What is your #1 Annoyance with your pump?

Don't get me wrong - I LOVE our son's Animas Ping and he does too. But I have to say that I get SO annoyed when it gives me the 'Not Primed' alarm when I am in the middle of changing the insulin cartridge. I just want to yell "I KNOW!" at it when it gives that alarm while I'm filling the new cartridge. "I know, you don't even have a cartridge in right now, stupid pump, of course you are not primed!" Maybe I am slow or something that I get that alarm then, but seriously if they fixed that, I would love it even more.

What bugs you about your pump?

That's pretty much the reason why I fill a new cartridge (i.e. have it ready) before I do the Rewind.

My #1 annoyance, with the Animas 2020, is that if I've gone too far in the option screens by accident, it often doesn't allow me to go back to a previous screen, in which case I have to start the process all over again.

For sanity sake and my alertness level at 6:00 in the morning not always being where it needs to be, I tend to fill my reservoir up the night before. I leave the needle on the top and leave it pointing up. This way it will also collect any additional air bubbles overnight. I truly get quite annoyed with the Pump not primed alarms, bust as much as the "home" screen kicking back up because I took to long to load the cartridge and attach the tubing. Now before I ever start everything is done. Infusion set is in, i hit rewind, take the old reservoir out, thread the tubing through the cap, wait for rewind to finish, put everything in and move forward.

My biggest annoyance is that in my mind the menus make no sense and I really would love the ability to be able to navigate around the entire pump menu system easier.

When I test my bg, shouldn't  my pump know what the reading was?  Instead, there is an extra step to telling my pump what my bg reading was.  I use the ping.  That is my biggest and only annoyance.

I know this is just the #1 annoyance, but there are two things that really annoy me on the one touch ping.  First of all, I always forget about my pump when I have to pull my pants down to use the bathroom, so the tubing always gets yanked...  Additionally, possibly the most annoying thing with the meter-remote is that putting in the carbs or insulin scrolls through either too slow or too fast.  Anything less than 10 carbs or more than 100 is fairly easy to put it, but it just zooms right over those common 'middle' numbers.  Oddly, the actual pump has a far superior scrolling speed, so if I'm not checking my bg before a snack I tend to just use my pump if it's convenient.

LOL - I thought it was just my 5 y/o son that had problems with the pump/pants/bathroom situation. ;) We solved that issue by having him wear a pump pack, so it stays around his waist.

But seriously, I was just thinking it was our Ping meter that had the crazy scrolling button - I agree - it FLIES in the carb count so you stuck hitting the up button 50 times instead of being able to scroll to it. Good to know it is others. I work in the med device industry and that stuff should be tested out before a product is released. The prime warning is probably a 'safety' mechanism (I can just imagine the arguments that would go on about that) but the scrolling is just poor design execution. Partly I started this discussion to know what other people have problems with and back me up when I talk with Animas.

Why are you putting your BG into the pump and not just bolusing from your meter? The meter knows what your BG is, unless you wait 15 min or more before you bolus.

I gave up on the Ping meter remote. It's to bulky and awkward for me, not to mention it does take forever at times to do stuff. More often than not I tend to go with the think about the carbs and just do the audio bolus or whatever the little black button next to the battery and tubing thing does. I have it pre set for one unit intervals and go based on that. Well for normal meals, when pizza is involved, etc. I tend to pull out and do the real math of carbs and dual wave stuff.

The entire pants and bathroom thing doesn't normally get me. i purposely use the long tubing to avoid that issue. My biggest dragging pump issue is usually first thing in the morning. My pump likes to remove itself from my shorts/pajamas/pockets and sleep on the bed with me. So when I get up again if it is early in the morning the entire pump not attached scenario has not clicked yet and my pump and myself tend to go for a walk. I walk it follows me until i run out of tubing. But truthfully, me and Murph play well together most days.

I guess my meter stays anchored in our bathroom.  So I don't move it around the house a lot.  I guess I  use my pump after I count carbs etc, and that is usually a minute or two after I test.  But I do see your point.  Thanks.

LOL. My son's meter goes everywhere he goes. Though it is usually the last place he was so he's always being sent to get it.

I do though agree that I wish the meter and pump were completely synced. Like I hate if there is an error during a bolus to then have to get his pump out and check if it gave it all or how much it gave. And why can't the meter remember how much insulin we gave - it only remembers the amount of carbs we bolused for and you have to pull out the pump to see what the actual insulin amount was. I wouldn't mind having to push some buttons to tell them to 'sync' but seems like they should just always be able to show the same information, even if stored in slightly different places.

I hate, hate, hate, hateeeeeee that my Minimed Paradigm 700 constantly BEEPS all the time, about EVERYTHING!!!! I just wanna scream, "I KNOW!"

My older sister always jokes that I'll never be able to sneak around in the dark because you can identify me with the pump noises. LOL

I AGREE 100 PER CENT!!!!  I took my CGM off today and it is sooooo peaceful!  (It goes back on tomorrow).  I even ate some peanut brittle because I wasn't wearing it and I knew it couldn't tell on me.

Thank you Meghann and Dan

You both just gave me a well needed laugh.  I also hear the beeping all day long and I do talk to it and say I know I know. The not wearing the CGM not telling on you hilarious.

My number one annoyance is not having a alarm clock built in to remember pre bolus.
